I need some help here, I'm going to try and make some carbon fiber panels for my stereo (area around CD player) and I've searched all over the net but can't really find any good tutorials. Does anyone have some good links to some or know how to lay this stuff? I've found a few that say (for a plain, flat panel) get a piece of glass, lay one piece of CF mat down, epoxy on that, and the lay another layer down on top of that. Anything else? Also, for curved shapes, a guage pod for instance, what do I coat the pod with to get the CF mat to not stick? Thanks guys.

yep pam, or vasoline, i prefer pam over vasoline though. I use this other stuff but it's pretty much the same thing. Why would you use Glass to make a thing for your cdplayer?? Doesnt sound like something i'd try.

If you have the pieces (stock) off the car you can spray them with pam then lay a coat of resin/hardener mix over that then lay a soaked piece of matting over that then a second coat. That's my procedure anyways. If you're looking to make a whole different piece (my fav thing) you gonna have to figure something out for yourself, key thing is to be creative. Balsa wood works good for a boarder if you dont wanna get your dash all resiny. Make sure you dont put too much hardener in the resin as you probably already know, it's better to have more time to let it sit how you want it, than to have to rush and have the finished product end up being a shitty job IMO.

If you have any questions you can ask me or the other guy that posted in this thread.

Future plans
Make custom fiberglass center console
Make custom Widebody kit

So what you are saying is to use the factory panel as a mould for making a fiberglass mould.

Then lay up the CF inside the mold?

Future plans with CF.

Trim ring around SVGA LCD

Dash trim ring.

Plug cover (for C-O-plug)

Windsheild base shroud.

Maybe even a CF intake with 5" tapered runners and a 1" phenolic spacer.

Inner fenders, chin spoiler and under panel. Basically replace the ugly heavy floppy plastic.

Overlay the grey on factory ground eff with CV.
