removing paint from chrome..

Alright my wheels were once chrome (stock gst wheels) The were painted gun metal color while leaving the lip chrome. They are starting to chip pretty bad. Is there a way to remove the paint without harming the chrome undermeath, that is if I havent already.

Chrome, or polished? Paint remover should do it, and check the can for any warnings about aluminum. Any idea what kind of paint was used?
