removing scratches from headlights?

hey i did a search on this topic, but nothing came up. so i've decided to post it. i've got a set of headlights with minor scratches on them. would sanding them down and polishing em up again work sufficiently or is there another process that would work better/last longer? thanks in advance for any help.

yeah just take high high grit sand paper...and then buff it out with a buffer...
