Anybody have any tips for spoiler installation on a 2G? I'll be purchasing a high rise spoiler here in a bit which will replace my 3 piece low rise one. I have a family member who will help me with plugging the holes and painting it but I'm on my own for installation. Any tips or references would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

your better off getting a gsx or gst hatch...however it can be done if you place the wing a little higher....
its a common mod...anyone?

What he said. Dang alex I been seeing you everywhere.

But if you will have to drill new holes and I believe you put nuts on it. It fairly easy. Youll have to remove your turn panels to find a good place to drill. It can be a bit frusterating because of the other stuff in the way.

I tried to find if someone had alrady done this and posted a write-up but I didnt see one. If I were doing it, I would take all the old stuff off first, get my new spoiler ready, use fingernail polish (or something that will transfer from one surface to the other), mark the holes on the new spoiler, stick it on your hatch where you want it, and drill the holes. If it goes in real life like it has in my mind, you should be able to see where to drill your new holes. You may get lucky and find that the holes line up, or somthing close to that. One thing I can say for sure is to get the right hardware to mount it back. If you ever sell the car it will make it a lot easier for the next owner to work on it if they so choose, and it will make for a cleaner installation. If you dont already have what you need when you take your old spoiler off, go to somewhere like Fastenall or a local company of the like and see what they have. Oh, and anytime you take something off your car, be sure to save the mounting hardware. Ive saved my own butt on numberous occasions by doing this, and all you have to do is get a little bag and label it. Good luck, and post up some pics of the process and the finished product.

you said you have it all patch up you will just place it on the hatch were it looks good to you and it should have pre drilled holes and then you will have to drill the hatchand just mount with nuts and bolts

I did this years ago on my GS-T. I used the bolts that are anchored in the spoiler to mark drill locations. Then I used longer bolts to attach the spoiler. it has threads in the body.

if you go to a junkyard/check a 2GB high-rise car you will be able to see that winged 2GB has a different inner skin that has flat standoffs for the the screws to flush up against. the screws kinds sit at an agle if u do it on a non-winged/conversion hatch as it has no flat spots. it can be done, it can look decent. Just clean up the holes with a dremel and paint it and use flat headed bolts to attach so they don't hit the rear of the car from the underside.

by the way...its like 13 holes you have to fill/cover up :) yay!

this spoiler was within 1/8" of OEM spec. I checked my buddies 2GB GSX before mounting. literally got the fore/aft and side measurements.

if you get a hi-rise eclipse wing, grab a 3rd brake light. only 2 of the bolt holes will line up, so you will need to drill 2 holes in the brake mounting plate so it doesn't flop around. the cars with NO spoilers also had this light and the wiring is the same for it ;)

:aha:Be sure to have the holes welded, don't just use filler. It's pretty straight foward, not hard at all. The hardest part is figureing out where to dril the holes. Most new spoilers come with a pattern for the bolt holes. If not make your own out of yellow folder material (the kind that's used for school) a long strip will do so you can wrap it around a little to the spoiler (one for each bolt hole), cut the bolt holes (very small), tape them slightly to the spoiler, set the spoiler where you want it then pull the tape from the spoiler and tape it to the decklid (both sides) without moving it around, remove the spoiler leaving the cardbord patterns attached to the car and drill (top through bottom) keep in mind you have to drill straight through both layers of metal, then from the underside drill a bigger hole through the bottom layer only so that the bolt head and a socket fits through to tighten the bolt. Paint the underside to avoid rust and before installing the spoiler run a circle of silicone sealer around the hole from the top of your decklid to seal leaks. It took me longer to write this up than it would take you to do it...really! :ohdamn:
