disillusions

Okay so I did a bunch of searching a while ago for people who did blue LED interior lights, and didn't come up with too many pictures of the finished product; or they used individual LEDs and soldered them in. Now for those with no soldering skills(like me), this wasn't really a viable option. I had read Rodent's write up on using plug-n-play LEDs bought from superbrightleds.com, and the red looked great in one of my cars, but I didn't want it in both. So I tried blue, and this is the end result. Figured anybody still messing around with this stuff could benefit from some decent photos of how it will turn out.

I didn't get around to modifying the 921-bulb for the gear selector, or the on/off LEDs for the cruise control; but, you get the idea.

I'm not too sure if this is in the right section, so I apologize in advance if it isn't.

Looks awesome man! Can't believe how bright they are! I did mines not to long ago, not even close to as bright, but not bad. Had problems with my cruise control switch getting that switched over to blue... I know others have struggled too as well in the past.

Also, Please let me know how you did the keyhole so bright? mines suck's compared to that. I'd love it that bright. Thanks.

I changed all interior lights to blue/ red on the spyder I had a couple years ago. Got pics in my gallery if you all want to see them.

Nice! i see you got the S7 gauges as well. I love the look of them. Even your keyhole led's are brighter than mines.... i think i must have placed mines in there wrong or something. Did you use single bulb led's or multiple bulb led's?

Very nice work. You definitely had some interesting ideas with the head/taillights; that front uber halo is ridiculous, haha.

VERY simple, sir.
Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs - Super Bright LEDs

The one you want is the 74-xHP3, obviously get it in blue. You might need to sand down the end a little to get it sitting better, but that will get you all the brightness you'd ever need.

Id love to do this to my 1g.. i just dont have the first clue how....LOL

My advice is to take out some of your lighted pieces, find the bulbs, and just try to match them up by eye or by service manual. The website I referred to earlier has a very good bulb size conversion chart, as most bulbs actually have the same base.

Oh, and in case anybody is wondering why I went with blue, this is why:

Forgot to address the cruise control switch, damn!

Anyway, it's pretty simple if I remember correctly. What kind of LED did you use to attempt it? I even tried to go a step further and open the switch up to try and increase light output; but, it was a waste. The only one I suggest doing that with is the mirror button, since the plastic on the arrow button is so thick it dilutes the blue to green. Though, it's nothing that a Dremel and A LOT of patience can't handle.

I did mine with led's soldered in. Don't have a picture (yet), but sometimes on the lowest setting they are still too bright for me

I know a lot of people do that and love the look, but this is a pretty inexpensive option if you don't have the skills or time to solder. Plus they look fantastic for a 20 minute mod.

Hey thanks, thats a very interesting shaped LED... I see how it would make it much brighter with the led's being radially mounted. i'll probably order one up here this week or next. :thumb:

To the OP, awesome setup but man what headunit is that? Never seen one like that but love it!

Here are mine. All led's wired in. Not finished yet, still working on the gauge cluster (will be blue/white switchable to match the prosport gauge) and the light around the ignition

Ignore the ricer switches :coy: they are being relocated

looks pretty good. howd you get the color to be blue? have to take all that apart and change the bulbs or what?

Pretty much... there are a couple of write ups and threads about it on here. For example the switches you simply remove them, disassemble, remove the old bulb and solder in your new led w/ an inline resistor. run a search on the matter and i am sure you can find the info your looking for :thumb:

Thanks dude. If you mean the initial headunit, it was the Dual XDMR7710. It's currently discontinued, but I'm sure you can find it somewhere online if you were interested. Of course I have my old unit still after the Pioneer dvd unit went in(pictured earlier in this thread). So if you don't have any luck, PM me and maybe we can work something out.

wow, im jealous.. this looks much cooler than red!!!

Don't be jealous, just switch!!!

Basically, yes. Taking the switches out is probably the easiest thing you can do. All it requires is a little prying with a flat head, and some patience with precision screwdrivers to pop them out. If you use Rodent's write up, it gives you a list of all the bulbs you'll need to complete it. I will warn you though, accessing the HVAC bulb will likely frustrate you to the point of tears; and it is completely necessary to shave down that bulb's base before trying to jam it back into the HVAC(learned that part the hard way). But like I said, take your time and it'll be a cinch. :thumb:

Looks really good man! See I went with Prosport's Evo series gauges to match my lights. The red/blue functionality makes it great for whichever color choice people go with when using the simple LED bulb mods.

That sounds like so much more effort than simply plugging in a pre-made LED with a base, haha. :D

Thanks man :thumb:

Wiring led's isn't all that hard with a good soldering iron and some time. The hardest thing about it is getting started on the project LOL

Woah, disillusions that is amazing! Im considering doing this as a part of my next project with the addition of some new gauges.

I got a few questions. Those Dual subs look awesome, how do they sound?

And.... how and what do i do to get an awesome keyhole LED? i think mine blew out LOL thats why im freaking out.

Yeah, to be honest i just made do with what i had at the time. I still like the brightness of yours though. I did order that LED bulb you recommended for the keyhole so that should be here soon.

Those look awesome!!

This just might be a small winter project for the blue car. Right now kinda burned out on taking things apart over and over. ;)
