My factory rims are all scratched to hell and they look like a$$. Some of you maybe saw a thread on here about polishing the valve cover...i was wondering if i would strip the rims down and sand them smoothe and polish them if you guys think it would look good or not. I assume they are painted like the valve cover is. heres the only picture i have of the stock rims

i was thinking about that, but i dont know what kind of metal the rims are made out of.... they might rust if you strip them down and polish them, you might need some heavy coating... im not sure, maybe someone can tell you what kinda metal they are....

just a caution

you could always have them sandblasted and powdercoated. My avenger rims were looking pretty bad before that was done. Alot better now

Most rims are aluminum. If left unprotected, they will oxidize, not rust. If you have hubcaps, then you have stamped steel rims. By the way, WTF were Eagle thinking when they put that rubbery crap on the early Talon rims?!

If your rims are just scuffed up on the surface, you can strip the clearcoat (with aircraft stipper - the good stuff is found in auto paint stores) and then reclear them. Don't do it now, it's too cold. You will want to make sure the paint has cured before you put them back on.. or you will ruin the finish. This isn't Krylon paint :D

i tried that aircraft stripper on them but it just wouldnt loosen the stuff up...ill probably just go get them bead blasted..they're actually the rims off my 95 eclipse so its like coated alum. whatever it is doesnt want to come off

You either bought the crap stuff, or didn't leave it long enough... that stuff is usually pretty nasty to paint.

hmm...ill try again...i left it on for like half an hour though....maybe go longer? half hour was enough for my valve cover but im sure its different stuff
