So, my idea was to take the center console, or the part where the shifter is, and fiberglass it. WHY? Well i hate the foamy stuff mitsu puts in, and i hate those damn compartments like the coin holder, flip up coin holder, and the flip up trash holder and the cigarette lighter. I dont use it, and it looks cleaner without them. I've never seen this done, and there are going to be a bunch of things that i never seen done on my car.

Furthermore, the fiberglass will allow me to paint it and shape the center console. First thing i did was take out the leather shifter boot. I took out the coin holder/flip up and cig lighter. I then ripped up the foamy base and top and sanded down the foam as much as possible. Some parts i didnt have to sand because its getting fiberglassed over anyway.

That leads me to these two pictures.

And this picture shows the trouble i am going to run into. You see the part circled. That is we foam used to be and made the whole side flat. Well you can see its not. What i think im going to do is run to walmart and put a foam insert in that "hole" and cut it to size. Then fiberflass over top of it to make that side even again.

After i started to mix the resin and fiberglass the plastic piece, i snapped these two pics.

I have no idea how this is going to turn out. But i hope i can get a nice looking fiberglass piece instead of that old foamy one that has become yucky and ripped.

Check out some Duraglass Its a mix between fiberglass and Bondo spreads like bondo but has the strength and build of fiberglass....

When fiberglassing the MORE time you spend on prep work and planing the better it will turn out...
Build your strength up from the BACK of the piece applying allot of chop mat to the top will make for more trimming and work later, chop mat is a bioch to knock down and will show thu when painted......

Basicly flip the piece over fill the gaps you want to delete from the back, once its strong and solid, Take Duraglass to the whole Top side smoothing the piece uniformed and sand smooth for a piece like that you should Not need a whole lot of fiberglass, Most People OVERKILL it and make it harder later, * LIKE the guy in the thread that he posted WAY To difficult of a build there are better ways to get to that with much less work and better results *
after its somewhat smooth, Use some Finish coat or Glazing * FINE * bondo and some high build primer sand find high/low spots fill sand and then go to paint steps....:thumb:

Thanks for the tips. Im going to go check on it here shortly to see how it dried and what it looks like.
