Well I received some upsetting news today and I just couldn't think. I was going to go over to my friend's house for a meet and I figured I give him my used oil to recycle. I had a gallon of it in like a water jug with the cheap pop on cap and I put it in the front passenger foot area. Needless to say, it fell over, and the oil popped the cap off. I spilled possibly half a gallon of it on my carpet. I managed to soak some of it up with a piece of cardboard I had in the car at the time and some of it was on the floor mat which I took out and threw in the trunk. Any ideas on what to do? It smells like a auto shop in the car. I figured I might have to take the carpet out to wash but it seems a bit of a hassle for that one area. Can I just scrub it out with some Oil Eater and Simple Green?

Sounds messy... What I would do is take out the passenger seat then pull the carpet up on the passenger side. My guess is the oil probably seeped through the carpet to the floor. Use some simple green and the other stuff you mentioned, just wipe it all off and see how much you can get out. Then spray with some air deodorizer (febreze, neutra-air or ozium).

This could be the perfect time to strip the back of your car. ROFL

Or you could try using some engine degreaser and some WD-40, but you will probably need to repaint the carpet.

Throw some baking soda on the spot where the oil spilled so it soak some of the oil up. After that use damp terry cloth towel or Microfiber and blot the spot for 5 mins. After that spray your all purose cleaner or degreaser. Brush the area with a bucket of water and remember to keep dip in the brush in the bucket. After you brush the area. Lay a damp microfiber or terry cloth towel and leave it on that spot for 10 mins. Last, Vaccum up the spot.

If you still have a really bad stain after this. Then your going to have to dye the carpet.

Awesome thanks. Baking soda never crossed my mind. The stain won't bother me much, I just want the smell gone. I can cover the stain with a floor mat. :p
