I searched all over this site and didn't find anything useful.

When I play music in my car with loud bass, the rear view mirror slowly droops down with the vibration and in about a minute it is pointing down and I can see the passenger seat in the rear view mirror.

Is my mirror just worn out and it is time for a new one? And no, I am not going to turn the bass down. :p

I don't know how different the 2g mirror is from the 1g but I have 2-15" Kicker Solo-barics and I play them loud. My mirror stays put, it just vibrates a lot. Some mirrors are "stiffer" than others in the pivot joint. I had a rear view mirror in my Chrysler that would droop as soon as the bass hit. I went to the junkyard and got another mirror and it stayed put when the bass hit. Your mirror may be a little worn out in the area of the pivot ball.

I know some mirrors you can tighten the pivot but I don't believe ours is one of them. Like others, I can really get the mirror going but have never had an issue with it moving around/dropping down. Think its probably time for a new mirror Dee. Or crazy glue, as suggested :p

Why would you want to crazy glue your mirror in a fixed position?
So it doesn't drop down any more, duh. You plan on growing much more? Oh, you let others drive your DSM? Life on the ragged edge.

The 2G rearview mounts to the windshield with a cruddy tab that has a release trigger inside that off-center square hole at the bottom of the mount base- you stick a small flatblade screwdriver up into there to release it. Check the socket cap and see if it screws in (it's probably press-fit junk). Does the mirror drop from the innner ball at the end of the stalk, or the one on the mirror? Try hitting them with brake cleaner to flush out any lube or plastic dust that's making it slippery. You might try roughening up the ball with an electric engraving pen so it won't move so easily. Because of the dome light arrangement, I don't know what all interchanges with the DSM mirror for replacement. They'll either be out of stock, out of price range, or just might be one of those things that's stupidly cheap as Chrysler/Mitsubishi go about shoveling out their dead back inventory.
You could run a tiny self-tapping screw (rape a dead hard drive, or other computer guts) in between the edge of the socket, and the plastic that surrounds it to tighten up the socket.

Thanks for the info.

It droops down from both balls, the inner ball at the end of the stalk and the one on the mirror. It doesn't have a dome light arrangement, so I'll just get a universal one if I can't fix it.

Oh, hell, then. Just hit up most of the Chrysler products at the junkers. I'll bet any of them would work, if not being outright twins.

I tried to clean it with brake cleaner and it did nothing. My girlfriend only had hair moss, which didn't work. I went to the local junk yards and didn't find any mirrors that were better than mine. I then went to Pep Boys and got one with a plastic base and as I screwed the base onto the metal plate on the windshield, the base expanded outwards and the mirror fell, so I returned it. Then I went to Autozone and found one made by Pilot Automotive (Model number MI-004) with a metal base and it worked. Loud bass and no droopy mirror. Thanks for all your help guys! :thumb:
