I got a great deal on a pioneer headunit a friend didn't need anymore, so I kinda bought it without doing a ton of research due to the price I was offered. I have a few question about hooking it up.

Can I use my stock infinity amp with a new head unit?

Can I buy an adapter or anything to hook the wires straight up to my factory plugs, or must I hardwire all of them?

Any tips for a first time installer? I'm kinda lost. I have found a diagram of the stock radio with each wire color for each component and a similar chart showing the wire colors on the new head unit, so I think I can hardwire them, but I just want to make sure I don't need anything else first before I take out my stock radio and have to drive in silence for a week as I figure things out.

Your amp will work with the headunit, yes. No need to mess with the amp at all while installing your new head unit.
It would be a good idea to install your new headunit with a wiring harness (the adapter you mentioned), never hardwire if you dont have to. You can buy a wire harness(adapter) from Walmart, as long as its the right one for your make and model. Some wires on your headunit, if its new enough, will not be used, tape or crimp these excess wires off and color match the rest to the harness you buy. Then plug it in and you're good to go. Also you might have to buy an install kit so your new headunit will fit properly but thats another 10 bucks or so..
I've dealt with numerous people who cut their factory wire harness off, its a mess and unnecessary, not to mention on some cars the wires are too short even before you cut the plug off. Its more of a hassle then just buying the adapter, the factory wires are short, can cause blown fuses if certain ones touch metal, etc. Also, if you ever want to take the cd player out you'd have to go through alot more work then just unplugging a harness.

Also, Solder all of the connections, makes a better and stronger connection, Deff buy the harness. its will save alot of the guess work.

*sigh*

There are plenty of information regarding these issues. A search might bring them up.

First of all, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR USER INFORMATION and specify what car you have.

If you have a 2G I can certainly help you out. I am confident to say I know my way around the 2g audio system pretty well.

If you have a 2g "ECLIPSE" GST or GSX, chances are good yours came with the infinity premium sound option. Which I am assuming you have since you mentioned you had the amp.

Contrary to what the replies above say. You WILL have to mess with the amp, IF you want to keep your dash speakers working.

This is where it gets complicated because there are several options.

You can just say forget the amp, have the deck power the speakers, but in which case only the door speakers will work and you lose the dash speakers/tweeters.

You can wire it up that way, find the appropriate wires to the dash speaker, add bass blocker or passive xovers and doing so you now have the deck powering the door speakers and dash speakers PROPERLY.

Or risk it and wire them up together without the xover.

Another option is get the MITAH adapter, meaning you dont use your new deck to power the speakers, but instead keep your amp powering all speakers in the car. With this method the only wires you connect on the deck to the harness is ign power, memory, amp turn on/antenna, and ground. Then you use the preouts of the deck assuming you have them because if not, it will make you have to do another step which I wont go through. Then simply plug the RCAs to the mitah rca input and voila. The infinity amp is powering the speakers, with all speakers working properly.

Soldering is the optimal method, but I don't think its necessary, esp for simple car audio installs. I will gladly be satisfied and happy with twist and crimp using crimp caps. not twist and tape, they are subjective to being disconnected.

Walmart sells the cheapest install kit and wire harness.

Alright, so I bought the radio harness and the install kit and still somewhat confused.

1. What wire do I connect the Factory Amp Turn on wire to on my head unit? I have read power antenna will work.

2. The wire harness has a big connector that I haven't plugged into anything, is this used for anything? I think it's an 18 pin connector.

3. My wire harness I bought has only 5 male pin connectors where I connect the grey factory plug, missing the middle and one on the far left if looking at it with the connecting pin on top. Is this normal?

4. No sound plays even when I have the power antenna wire hooked up to power amp. This is how I have it hooked up now.

This is my first ever attempt at upgrading a car's stereo system, so what do I have to do to get my speakers to work? Will the MITAH adapter solve my problem? I've done some searching but can't really find a solid answer.

If you search on google for wiring doctor, it should be the first link, it tells you exactly how to wire it up. I used the website and installed my head unit by myself. Its very easy and straightforward.

Is this what you are speaking of, I did what you said, searched wiring doctor and boom theres the wiring diagram:

If you followed that, yes that will work, but guess what, your dash speakers/tweeters no longer work. There are several threads here on tuners on how to wire it up properly so all speakers work.

Please fill in your profile so we know what car you have:

That wiring diagram you made confuses me, it confuses me because it doesn't seem to be a 2G. Because I would spot a 2g audio layout quite easily, if you see my post contributions regarding 2g audio.

If it is a 2g, and you are trying to make your FACTORY INFINITY AMP THAT IS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, work with your new deck, then the MITAH adapter is the easiest and cleanest way to do it.

It comes with the specific adapter for the stock amp interface, which converts it tot he proper 4 channel rcas for your deck, AND it already has a blue turn on wire that you connect to your decks turn on wire like it too is an install for aftermarket amp.

Then after that usual deck install, yellow, black, and red wire and you are good to go.

Turns out after doing some research on my head unit it has a MOSFET50 internal amp in it, so is it possible to use the internal amp to power dash, door, and rear speakers? Would the sound quality be better than using the stock amp? I dont have subs, just the standard 6x9's.

Also, here it was I'm confused about currently. I chagned the headunit and wired it all up with a wire harness behind the deck. With the stock headunit my back speakers played music (No tweeters and doors hooked up currently), yet with the new headunit they dont. Why is that?

I have a sebring which closely resembles the 2g eclipses.

Wow, i'm pissed.. best buy was gonna charge me extra ### they said they have to REMOVE the amp under the seat... and all i was gonna get was a new deck in it.. i turned them down but those ####ers would have jipped me.. and probably kept the amp n sell it or sumthin.. rofl

Aren't the greens the speaker power? I understand the harness wiring, all my wires were labaled on the factory harness and headunit harness. I just don't understand all the stuff involving the amp to get the speakers to work.

I went to Fry's electronics and bought my harness for about 15 bucks. I asked the guy how to hook it up, he told me to hook up all the colors except green or whatever. It was pretty easy..

Green? That's a wire for a speaker. By the way, if the harness you got is $15, chances are your dash speakers are not working right?

That one is the wire that will have ALL your speakers working, serving for a better soundstage. IMO, after comparing from just deck powering only door and rear speakers, compared to the stock amp powering all speakers (including dash speakers/tweeters), the stock amp setup sounds better. The deck makes use for high voltage preout for the stock amp. Sound feels more complete.

That link above is the MITAH plug.

I still don't know why you didn't hook up the green wire. The ones probably not to hook up are the illumination orange wires. Maybe an extra blue wire.

What exactly do I still need to get my stereo to work. Im going to buy the MITAH adapter, but do I need anything else like an extension cable for the RCA's or any other equipment? Also can I buy a MITAH adapter locally or is it online only?

Man, I wish you were closer I would hook you up in 5 minutes.. Its just so hard to do this over the internet.
