So after watching a bunch of fiberglassing videos and reading techniques, I've had an idea to fiberglass my dash and take out the seat and replace with a custom fiberglass piece spanning from the interior panels under the rear window, down behind the front seats and across the car to the other panel. Almost like a separator from the rear and front of the car. As for the dash, my question is how could i easily join the black part and gray part of the dash of my 1g. The 2g's have a one piece system. But the 1g has about 4 or 5 separate pieces from the very front piece, the gauge cluster, left side dash, middle and right. And even the shifter base i wanted to mold all into one. With a nice clean look. What do you guys think? Maybe post some pics of a design while i come up with mine. Thanks

If this is your daily I would not do any extensive fg because the car will stink for weeks unless you let the whole dash cure outside the car. Trust me ive been there

I would do when im transferring my stuff from my laser to my talon this summer. So, no, its wouldnt be at the time.

Other then just doing the fiber glass there is alot more to it. You would need to do lots of sanding. Body filler, then either paint it or wrap in something. Then what about the back. Will you design it so you can remove it easy and not messing it up? Just some stuff to think about.

If you want the generallly same design as the 1st gen dash but just all in pieces, I can give you some tips.
If you remove the leather overtop of the dash, it should epxose a foam. You can resinate this foam, as it will harden with a pretty thick and hard layer. You can also fiberglass directly over this once it all dries. Because the foam has different properties then plastic, it will prevent cracking a bit more then glassing directly over a hard surface.

If you need to make the pieces removable, just glass over top the existing pieces within the car, then once dry, cut the pieces out in whichever shape you need..

I actually wanted to fiberglass a whole piece altogether. Not fiberglass all the sections together. I wanted it to be unique. Something thats never been done. Something that almost looked like it was meant for a 2g but in a 1g. As for the rear, it would never get removed. The would be something that was made from 3 section that were brought together. Sides and middle section. That would be something that was made out of a mold. Just my ideas.
