Can anyone reccomend a good in-dash DVD player (with screen) that won't cost me an arm and a leg? I'm thinking like $300ish. I realize I'm not going to be getting something super fancy, but I really don't see the need in spending $1500 on a deck.

for around 500-600 you can build a carputer that does DVD, GPS, MP3, and what ever else.
go to www.mp3car.com for more info. if you also search here you can see my screen install.

Not a very hard project at all!

So, basically what you guys are saying is "no, I can't recommend anything."

I know where to find cheap stuff at. I also know that there are $300 in-dash DVD players that you couldn't tell the difference between it and a high end Alpine, if the badges were removed. There's also older models that used to run like $1000 new, but now that they're used can be had for a lot cheaper. I'm just curious as to whether or not anybody has any expieriance with some of these less expensive brands/models and what that expieriance was.

I'm looking for actual expieriances, not opinions or 'a-friends-friend-said...'

Valor or Dual have been selling some single din 7" TOUCHSCREEN dvd/cd/mp3 car decks for $300 brand new. I have installed a dual, you can't complain for the price. Has aux av input, 4 channel rca preouts with a seperate subwoofer output, rear view camera input, extra 2 video outputs, etc.

Only thing that it lacks is the extensive EQ settings found in more expensive models, such as the curve of the hz, etc.

That's the kind of response I was looking for. I think that's what my buddy has in his Denali and he was pretty happy with it. I couldn't remember the brand he had, plus I wanted (and still do) to get others opinions as well. What's the model # on the Dual deck that you have??

I've done lots of both of those and had good luck. For 500 there are places in SD that sell pioneer sony and other name brand stuff. For cheap the dual is a nice peice.

If you have a fry's electronics in your area, you just miss a big sale yesterday.. 4th of july sale.

They had a Phase Linear (jensen) 7" single din motorized touchscreen dvd player for $250! Same specs as most. I was so tempted myself.

I believe Phase Linear = Jensen

Look at the more expensive one and compare the features it has over the cheaper one, then ask yourself if you really need it and if it is worth the extra price.

I don't have an ipod nor do I ever plan on having one, so I don't need the "real" ipod connectivity. Aux input is fine enough.

I just make sure it has 2 pairs of rca preouts for amps (Front and rear) in addition to a nonfading subwoofer rca output.

thanks for the reply, i think i'll go with the jensen one, simply because i have an ipod...

next question, i have the factory "upgraded" infinity stereo, and i dunno what adapter to get?

any advice?

I work at a car audio store and i hate to say it but we do sell jensen the cheaper stereos have lots of features and screens look awesome but for the last 4 years seeing the amount of jensens or cheap in-dash dvd players come back i would rather spend the 699 on the pio 4900dvd. the main problem with the jensens were the flip out screens motors would break and if you are trying to build a system not possible recommended spend a little extra well worth it in the long run

but i do need to say that i have seen rare i mean rare cases where they have lasted more then six months i mean rare

what kind of vehicle and what year is it

Stereo Wire amp Harness Mitsubishi Eclipse 95 96 97 98 - eBay (item 110139196938 end time Mar-10-08 16:41:33 PDT)

That is the updated one, as you can see, its just 2 pairs of rca, the harness, and a few wires, your probably wondering, how do I connect the speaker outputs from the new deck, well you don't.

The infinity amp will be working, and it will act like how it always was-- a 4 channel amp. Meaning your dash speakers (tweets) will work!!!!! It makes for a simple install too, not having to twist and crimp all the wires. Just plug in the RCAs, and ign power, constant power, ground, amp turn on, and your set.

I work a lot with norton car stereo and for that price your best bet would be valor. Their product is a lot better than Dual's and is fairly nice for only around 300. Please, please stay away from Jensen and most Dual, they are the low-end product and they are that cheap for a reason(low quality product that breaks easily). If you have any questions pm me, or if you can't find one i can get you an estimate for the valor and shipping.

RedTurboEclipse... how long have you been running the Dual deck? Since I started this post over 6 months ago, I still haven't jumped on an in-dash DVD player yet... at $250, I may wanna get froggy.

I've had my dual DVD touchscreen for about 3 months now.. No issues thus far.. Plays ipod videos, and has bluetooth.
