has anyone ran a stock radio (reason being i have a 10 cd changer and don't want to give it up & keep stock 6 speakers w/o hooking up another amp) to an amp for subs. i know that you can get converters to do the job but im not sure how much work or money it would be to do this. thanks for the help

The guy I bought my 92 off had an amp hooked up to the stock deck powering the rear 6x9's. When I ended up putting my Kenwood deck in I noticed that there was some sort of signal filter attached to the deck that had RCA outputs on it. The box didn't look like an expensive item by any means and the setup seemed simple enough. He hooked up the remote wire to the power antenna source. I had to turn the radio on, then switch to CD before the back speakers would power on :)

You could probably split the rear speakers to provide the sound for the sub, and run it through the amp that way using one of those converter boxes (speaker wire - rca) of course. Not sure where to get those from anymore. I threw out the one that was in my car... I believe it was from The Source back when it was Radio Shack.

You can get a line out converter to wire into your rear speaker lines to get the signal, which translates that to an rca output. They run $10-$30 depending where you get them, you can go to best buy, order online etc. I'm planning to do this soon, I did it on my old car and its pretty easy minus the time to get a power line from your battery to the amp. But you will need an additional amp to power the sub of course.

you can run the RCA to the audio output on the rear speakers and hook your amp up that way (means cutting and splicing your RCA cable) or you can get the line-out hookup. The right way line-out hookup the ghetto rigged is the cut RCA line and hook it up to the speaker!!!

If you are gonna go that route (line level converter) dont get the cheap one.Get a adjustable one , that way you can tune the signal input to the amplifier (think of it as a second gain like the amp has.) that way you can compinsate for votage differances in headunit to amp.
The speaker output carries a voltage , and the better control you have over the signal , ie.. voltage the better and clearer the sound.
Personally I used a one in mt 95 GST for years , never a problem.Though you will never get the output voltage of a good aftermarket headunit from OEM headunit , unless you are going into competing with it , its fine.
I used one made by Scosche , a 4ch adjustable unit.
