Where do you get custom-made decals for the windshield? (like your name)

Ok you know how you see some civics driving and on the top of the front windshield where the tanned area is they have their name (like Hernandez) in white letters in some cool font? Well I want the same. Any idea where I can get those or even what are they called?

Wanna put my wife's name on there. Yes I'm married and I drive a DSM convertible. Oh I'm also 19.

Look for any sign shop in your phonebook. They can make custom decals for you. Could be pricey though. I used to make them about 10 years ago and they were expensive then, dont know the cost now.

This stuff is gold, thanks guys! I'll let you know how a custom-font one works out.

My roomate owns his own custom decal buisness. You can see his webpage and some of the work he has done at www.redlinedesign.tv

He really does do good work, and will probably beat any price.

I don't see too many people with decals on their cars, they seem to cost only ~$50, how come nobody's using them?

Many consider the fad to be passed, and puerile and disgusting when current. Honestly, I don't know how this thread lasted 8 posts without someone putting a desultory torpedo through your waist armor. But, congratulations to all of those who didn't.

I used a local modifying shop, they did a qaurter window sticker, that was 12"/4"- for $15 in any color, so I say that many a places will have the option.

The redlinedesign guy offered to do that custom windshield decal for $75, not bad imho.

You need to take a serious time out. If you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute to a thread other than bashing someone else's preferences then don't post. Customizing a car is a matter of personal taste. Just because it's something you wouldn't do it doesn't give you the right to be nasty to a fellow member.

Exactly what he said.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean someone else can't.

So change your attitude soon please.

Thanks,
John

The guys are right, go to your local sign shop.... the bigger the better. A larger shop will probably give you the best deal. I work at a sign shop. For a name across the windshield would cost no more that $40. Faded colors, mulit colors, crazy fonts, size, all that stuff wouldn't be that big of a deal. Shouldn't be no more than $40!!! As for the extensive vinyl applications, I personally don't think people realize how easy, cheap, and creative you can be with designs on vinyl. The slogan I tell most people is that "AnyTHING You Want on Your Car, I can put it There". Go down to the sign shop, ask them what they can do for you. Don't let them hardball ya!

I had mine for years...it said "TALON" grrrrr. But yeah I decided one day it made the car look even more childish than it already does with it's bright red paint and fart cannon exhaust tip. You can see an old pic in my gallery.

When I razored them off, the sun had faded the rest of the windshield tint so it still says TALON faintly. You can see it easily from the inside. Kind of cool IMO. :sneaky:

White does stain, so try to keep it clean if you get white. Especially keep the bird shiot off of it. :thumb:

Good luck, and I agree, don't pay more than $40-50. Go to a sign shop, ask the dude for his opinion on your design, or maybe he could draw up a couple ideas real quick and maybe he'll chop the price a little for being chummy!

Andy,

I'm not picking on you but I always used to laugh at cars that had the model emblazoned on the windshield. As they drove by I used to say "damn I'm glad he has that decal on there otherwise I wouldn't know what the hell kind of car it was". Of course I always did this silently. My favorite ones are sedans like Luminas. Those are priceless.

I think it's cool that yours left a faded outline though. Now that's different.

No offense taken bud. It was on there when I bought it and I left it there until it really started to bother me. I'd never get one myself, but I figured I'd see if it grew on me. I think I outgrew it instead.

What exactly is a sign shop? I local.google.com'd for Sign Shop near my 98023 ZIP code and I only found one close, and nobody answered the phone there... Anybody know any good sign shops near Seattle?

Cause a faded decal sounds awesome, that guy from redline designs said he doesn't do faded, which's what I really wanted.

It's halarious I saw a small Acura today, with a A(acura decal) on his back windshield.. And I mean it took up his ENTIRE back window, I've never seen a decal so huge. So, I pulled up next to him at the light and just busted out laughing, and they were looking at ME, like wtf? hahaha

There's only two steps better: license plate frames (LEXUS), and the most: 68CAMARO personalized plates. Wow. No kidding?

I work in a sign shop also. Our windshield banners run between, $40 to $50, but if a customer wants something specific like a drawing they created then there is more money involved. Because time is money and someone there at the shop would have to scan the artwork and then retrace the file then that means you spend more money.

Then when you add such things as flames with gradients and multi colors then the price goes up again. Also the technology has come a long way most printed vinyl application will only last about 3 maybe 5 years before it starts to fade. Some colors fade faster then others. If you were to get a solid color decal with an outline or shadow affect with out any gradient the color will last longer about 5 to 7 year. Most vehicles that get lettered are either totaled or sold before the solid colors begin to fade.

I'm sure if you look up something like fastsigns.com or Signs by Tomorrow, which are large franchise places you will find a place close to you. Take them in you’re drawing and tell them what you want and they should give you a price right then. You should also tell them what you would like to do and see if they can offer any suggestions to make sure you get your moneys worth. Good luck with your decal and I hope it turns out well.
