Does anyone have a setup or know of anyone that sells a direct fit HID for the 2gb headlights? Ive been told that you need the ebay projectors to get HIDs to work right on 2g's. Any help would be great. Thanks:dsm: :laser: :talon:

plug and play kits are illegal.

We all know they are intended for off-road use only...just like removing a catalytic converter for instance.

Ya but the difference between the cat and the HIDs is that if you don't do the HIDs right it could potentially momentarily blind someone, which while driving is not good. Whereas the only damage you can do with a test pipe is damaging the ozone a teeny tiny bit and maybe not passing emissions. I say if you do the HIDs do a retrofit and do it right the first time.

blackGSX2g has done a nice job retrofitting (I believe Audi) projectors into ebay housings. It took some time to get perfect, but they have a very crisp cut-off (I know because I see them on a weekly basis). Try giving him a PM, I'm sure he would be glad to help.

Wow. That's gorgeous, how much did that end up costing?

If you have to ask...

Too much. Luckily, I make enough "mad money" off of my ebay door handle repair kits plus buying and re-selling stuff in garage sales to afford these lights. I have probably close to a grand in the lights in the front and just about the same for the LEDs in the taillights plus a ton of hours of labor including the design time.

I'm sick I know...the motor and tranny are next.

Here is a pic of a good retrofitted HID beam pattern:

your cut off still looks a little high (higher than the lights themselves), but at least HAS a cut off.

you can move the cutoff without moving the light aiming by moving the plate behind the projectors more towards the center of the projector.

It's probably just the angle of the photo. It's hard to see where the base of the wall is that the lights are shining on.

Anyway, that's an incredible amount of work to move the cut-off shield compared to re-aiming the housing within the housing. Are you sure you meant to say that or am I following you wrong?

ILLiCliPSE,
My handle repair thingy is on my Eclipse web pages at rcaz.com (nuff said)

no, thats what I do on jettas with BORA headlights. get em aimed, and then if the cutoff isn't quite right (car is lowered etc) adjust the cutoff shield itself.

Yea, thats because the photos were taken in a parking garage at an off angle. The surface of the parking garage is fairly sloped and quite un-even. Bad example of the cut-off height, but its the only one I had.

I have read several threads about how ALL stock H.I.D.s have this fantastic sharp cut off point. They don't. Not all vehicles that come equiped with H.I.D.s have projector housings. About 50% world wide. For example: I was driving next to a Toyota Prius the other day and I was looking for this sharp cut off in the road ahead of this vehicle but there was none. Another example: an older Acura TL had the same beam pattern and no sharp cut off to be seen. I have an H.I.D. plug and play kit in my stock 2Gb housings and I have never been told about any glare or have EVER been flashed by oncomming traffic for glare. I have even asked people that I was driving with (in a seperate vehicle) to let me know if my headlights were bothering them. At several angles they have stated "no". I do however have my lights aimed properly and not into the trees hunting for squirels.

Even though this thread is kinda old. I do agree. I have HID plug in play in my housing for more then 2 years. Nevered been flash, or notified that they were causing distraction. Some say that some kits don't light up the road good. Well, I use to run SilverStars before HID's and I can see much better with HID's.
Not trying to bash people on there retrofits or anything. Hell, I plan to retrofit someday when I get the chance. But there not all bad. Like everything else, you do get what you pay for, and if not installed/maintain properly it could cause issues.

wow... azdave i just looked at your page, and you do amazing work. congrats on having the best headlight/taillight combo on any dsm i've seen. and i wish i knew about your doorhandle kit a couple months ago, LOL, mine broke in two right where you've reinforced them.
