(Yep - me again)

Ok. I understand the concept of a car alarm. Alarm goes off when you do something that you're not supposed to. But shouldn't the alarm turn off when you unlock the car with your key?!

If I use the key on my locks when the alarm is on, the alarm will go off, and I can't turn it off again until it goes off automatically after 3 minutes! Even if after I unlock it (and the alarm goes off), I use the "unlock" button on the remote it still goes on, even if I turn the ignition and start the car!

I had to drive halfway across town before the alarm shut off, blaring "HONK HONK HONK" the entire way!

WTF is going on?

i can't even start mine while the alarm is going off and none of the buttons on the remote turn it off. i just pop the hood and unhook the battery whenever it happens. i leave the negative terminal snug and not tightened all the way down so i can just take it off by hand for a quick shut the #$%^ up. hook the battery back up and now its quiet while everyone stares at me.

not so sure about the stock alarm but i dont think it controlles the ignition so here is what to do you can either
1. If it has a fuse under the stering column remove it if not
2. Use a voltmeter to find the power voltage to the brain shuld be like 11.9 -13 V cut it alarm may still be on. after it is cut or fuse is removed remove negative battery terrminalput it back on check the following after starting yur car< all lights, horn, interior lights in dash> if workin yur fine if not then
next you need to find the brain of alarm Take out all of the input wires and reconnect them in to the wires in to which they go (might be attached to the brain itself). (dont even ask me for the wire color codes)

damn that sounds way too complicated, but thanks :) ill try

if the buttons on the remote dont work, either the buttons are worn out or the batteries in the remote are dead, personally I think car alarms are stupid anyway, no one ever pays attention to them anymore cause its so common a noise to hear, unless you make yours sound different no ones even gonna notice even if your car is being stolen so disconnect the stupid thing, but try getting a new remote if you like the alarm

Listen.

Put your key in the trunk and unlock the trunk.

That stops the car alarm.

My original point was that doing this is actually what causes the alarm to go off in the first place!
