Well i have a 92 laser and i went to Hi Fi house and circuit city, but nobody seems to know what exact size speakers in my car. they all give me the"possibility" of two diff. sizes which doesent help considering my dad wants to get me this stuff for xmas. I need the front and rear sizes..and oh yea, how do you get to the rear ones...do you have to take the WHOLE side panel off or does that grill pop off? Thanks in advance.

i did the rear ones a few days ago in the same car.... first take the seat out,(two clips under the seat for the bottom, then for the back theres 3 bolts aside) then take the few screws, and unclip the clips of the panel. it isnt that hard. i think they r 5 1/4 inch but ill have to double check. I ended up puttin 5x7s in because thats wat size the grill is and i bought the speakers before i took it all apart. i had to make a custom peice to mount them on. it was a pain in the ass but ill measure them tonight and get back to u. i dont know wat there is in the doors tho.

i put the 5 1/4 inch speakers in my doors... they came with templates... so it was easy.... i dont know the exact size they looked bigger than 5 1/4 maybe they are 6 1/2s?

workin on it: maybe u could hurry im goin to buy speakers for the back tomorrow... i was going to buy some 6x9 (thats what the grill size looks like)

sorry dude bad night i think i blew my engine...... the grill size is a 5x7(wat i put in) but the speakers are 5 1/4.. i m soooo pissed off right now!!!!!!

so you say the rear's are 5 1/4 ROUND or are they oval? i know the doors are round and you say tose are 5 1/4 too? LOL you guys aren't to helpful...just like the stores...nobody knows for sure.

I dont know if my 1g DSM is any different than yours, but i just replaced all my speakers. they were
dash-4"
doors-5 1/4"
rear panels-6x9
Every one of them fit PERFECTLY in the housing unit for them. Screw holes lined up and everything. I put pioneer speakers all the way around in it...i should have some pics after i clean it out, i have all my tools from everything i have done to it yet inside the car now. Hope at least something i said helps...

Im just gonna piggy-back on this guy's post and ask a seperate but related newbie question:

I have a 1G Eclipse with the 6 speaker system (2 dash, 2 kick panel, 2 rear side panel). Ive been shopping around online for a new cd receiver, and Ive noticed that all their wattage ratings are like 45 x 4, 52 x 4, 50 x 4, etc. Does this mean that there are only 4 amplified outputs from these head units? If so, what do I do since I have the 6 speaker system  Thanks ahead of time and sorry for the newbishness OMG

The dash speakers and the door speakers are wired together so you only need 4 inputs. The front 2 channels powers your dash and doors while the other two channels powers the rear.

thats right manand most decks put out about 20x4 watts of clean power. if you were pullin 50 watts off a deck it would be mainly distortion!the deck will be fine for stock speakers but if u upgrade speakers then upgrade the amp

I too am a little confused about what speakers go into my car. I got on crutchfield.com, and there are two options on there. It says that if you don't have an infinity system, your car has 5 1/4" speakers in the rear, but if you do have the infinity system, your car has 6x9's. I don't have the infinity system, can I still put 6X9's in? If it wasn't so cold out, I'd just rip the car apart and look.

Yeah check out the confusing options for 1Gs on crutchfield.com. I think there are 3 or 4 options, and a couple are very similar.

If you plan on installing this junk yourself, get the 6X9 rears, they offer better mids and low mids than a 5.25. Even if the stock hole is 5.25, a template is included with most speakers, and a Jig-Saw will carve up the metal for you. In the doors, 5.25's are stock, but once again, a larger speaker is always better for low mid sound, so go with a 6.5 that comes with cool looking grilles. Ignore the dash speakers, they rely on reflection, and since the rest of your speakers use direct projection, these tend to sound more full than the rest. I recommend a 6.5 seperate package, then mount the tweets in the door above the mids, but within 6"s for optimal sound quality. I have tried 6.5's in the rear and regretted it, they sloped off too soon, making my sub boomy. I have also tried Infinity dash mounts, and the reflection made the rears seem dull, my friends often complained about the front's brightness, although in direct projection they were all a good match. Good luck.:dsm:

OK...to set the record straight, my 92 LASER and only the laser's have 6x9 rears and 6 1/2's in the front....the 92 talons are different than even the 92 eclipses..just go to circuit city and punch ur car in on their computer thing, it tells you. Also, you cant go to big w/ the rears..i bought infinity's and the magnet was to big, so i had to settle for weaker pioneers.

That is a good point, the depth of a speaker does play into the equation. However, the Circuit computer's list 6.5's up front on 1g Eclipses and 6X9 rears, which is incorrect, so I strongly recommend bailing on the original sizes and building a system that will fill the car with the fullest sound possible.:dsm:
