I have a flamethrower kit and will be installing it soon. The only roadblock that I'm running into is the part where you have to splice into the negative wire on the coil. Well since we have 2 coils how would you go about doing that. Could you just splice into the connector that comes off of your coils. Any help on this wouild be appreciated.

what? im not sure too many of us have flame thrower kits. is this so it shoots flames out the exhaust, or what does the kit actually do?

Ya, the kit just shoots flames out your tailpipe.I think it uses sparkplugs or something:confused:

Mitsuman get us some pics when your done, I've never seen a Eclipse with a flamethrower:D

Mine will shoot a flame, rather small, with no "kit." Just shifting from 1-2 at like 7000, so I've been told. I've never seen it though as I do not let anyone else drive my car. He's probably talking about something like this

I think you should call some old-school Hot Rod shop and ask about this. they are more into the flame throwing stuff than the import guys.

otherwise, just run it pig rich like my friend in his EVO... http://media.putfile.com/Darth_OnFire61

good luck, and i'd love to see a video of the finished project!

I don't see why you couldn't just splice into the negative wire on the coil pack harness,if it doesn't work you'll know and you shouldn't harm anything trying.

If you get it workin,or even if you don't..you should bring it to the SE regional DSM meet in Jax Feb 18th.:thumb:

I'll be adding that kit to my vehicle also. I was wondering though, how do you make different colored flames? I know, bad reference, but in 2F2F, they had like blue, green, pink, and orange. I have a feeling it was just a movie special effect, but I'd like to know if its possible... white flames would be sweet :D :thumb:

I bet it was just the type of fuel they were using and it was just a movie effect type thing. Like using propane as the fuel leads more to blue flames, using gasoline yeilds yellow flames, and to get green and the others im sure they just added phosphourous (sp) (or whatever it is in fireworks i dont remember) to get the color.

Green Flames: I do know that if you run a peice of copper Across the middle of where you want the flames to come out a chemical reaction between the copper and the heat will cuse the flames to turn green. Although you need A pretty high temperature flame of above 900 degrees farenheit.

I am not flaming or being a dick but I have one question. What is the purpose? At shows I don't see you starting up your car so the judges can see that you can throw flames. On the street it is just asking for police attention. Again, I am not flaming. Just asking.

no itll cook it LOL

these kits are so bad, i had thrown one i pieced together on an old corolla. first it kills your gas mileage, second, its illegal to have installed on a street vehicle Third wait until you shoot a flame and it doesn't shoot out but your rear end catches fire.

you have to remove the cat to let it allow the gas to pass

Just because I like it. I got the kit for free so its not like I'm putting any money into it. No practicality really. Just like I put the certain style of rims on my car, just because I like it. Not trying to flame back. I just don't have any better justification :D

Good enough. Was just curious. :thumb:

My buddy put plugs in his 64 fleetwood and would just kill the engine momentarily. It threw pretty impressive flames and looks good on a car like that!

I dont think it hurts the CAT because the it's only a flame at the end of the exhaust where the spark plug type thing is placed.

They are talking about the 'run pig rich' method. That will melt your cat!

One of my biggest worries with a Flamer thrower kit on an import car is look at what kind of mufflers most of us have. We have the canister type mufflers that have a what MAYBE 4 inch long tip out of it if that? Our mufflers are stuffed with fiberglass right? Where exactly are you going to mount the spark plug to ignite the flame? there isnt any room to put it on the "tip" without being noticable because you can see the entire muffler on most of our cars. Hot Rods got away with this because they had the muffler tucked up and ran pipes to the back so they have lots of room to mess with. Also if you put the spark plug before the muffler you are going to be sending flames into your muffler, heat RISES, so when entering the muffler chamber, which larger in diameter than the main pipe, the flames will go up swarming inside of the muffler before exiting. Now just exactly how much heat the fiberglass filler in the mufflers need to ignite is beyond me.

The only way I would really feel comfortable with a flame thrower kit on my car was if I had an EXTRA proprane fuel injector with its own tank and system hidden somewhere in the car, and an exhaust that had maybe a magnaflow muffler or no muffler at all and had atleast 6-8 inches of tip that I could mount my spark plug AFTER the muffler but still hidden from view when lookin at the car. then you won't have to ruin your mpg, CAT(if you have one...I don't), and possibly make your car slower than needed just for looks.

Just another view to look at because I'm not sure if your muffler would catch fire or not. The most likely thing it will do is burn up all the fiberglass then your muffler would sound like ass

you couldnt run rich enough with a cat for just a spark plug to ignite the unburnt fuel. you can do it catless though. i believe the system he has uses propane/other fuel AND a plug, and introduces the propane/fuel after the cat, and a plug before the muffler.

and to zachakagoat, im pretty sure the fiberglass insulation inside a muffler is resistant to very high temperatures. a very quick flame or two isnt going to heat things up quick enough inside that canister to cause any damage, no running a straight flame for a minute, yeah, youd ###### melt the bumper before you melted the muffler. and like it would matter, were talking about a fire inside a metal tube with material that only reduces the sound. if anything after blowing out all the insulation, itll sound meaner:rocks:

Of course. The cat would burn everything up long before it reched the muffler. If you TRIED to run that rich, however, you'd kill your cat pretty fast. I did it inadvertantly once. It wasn;t long before boost was popping out seals and I had to rev to 5K before I had any power.

Yeah, with a cat there is NO way to ignite your exhaust...

These kits are for V-8s and old school muscle cars... in order to get this to work your going to need basically no exhaust, and your going to have to run rich.

These kits are meant to have the spark plug mounted 2-6 inches from the tip of your exhaust... seeing how we all have mufflers at the end, your going to have to put it just before that... which means your flame might not even make it out your tail pipe. These aren't shooting out 20ft flames.. its a quick 8-16" flame.

If you get one of the propane kits its different... but looks like a drunken plumber put it on because of all the pipes... There is a cruise called St. Ignace in MI every June. These 2 guys with old school turbo probes have the propane ones... it is the most retarded thing I've ever seen... first a pilot light ignites and burns... looks like a cigarette lighter off your muffler... then the propane kicks in. Sounds like an acytelyne torch and just shoots blue fire.
