Here's an odd question.... I've seen several of those Cadillac DeVilles with FLIR systems (that's Forward Looking Infared) driving around, and I've honestly been pretty impressed with the functionality and usefulness of it. Now, has anyone yanked a system out of a wrecked Cadillac and plugged it into their DSM? Maybe mounted onto a sunvisor monitor or anything? I think it'd be a really sweet system to show off if I could get my hands on one. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Money really isn't an object, I've got a nice job, so don't say it'd cost too much and not try bothering with it.

Well, in 2000 Cadillac introduced the Night Vision system into their line up. It was a heads up display projected up on the windshield that hooked into an infared camara that let you see HEAT from objects.
The system worked in total darkness for over 500 feet. Obviously this let you see objects way before your headlights. People and cars show up as lighter objects since they're warm and things like concrete and trees darker since they're colder.
Naturally, this would be wicked for night driving since you could see everything ahead of you. Very nice for people, such as myself, who live in the mountains where things like deer and wolves like to lurk out in front beyond the range of our headlights. :)

Particularly if paired up with a few Redeye missles. Goddamned deer.

Redeye's are obsolete. Get with the times, old man. ;)

A FLIR setup would be kind of cool. I have not heard of anyone doing this, though.

Well, if you're going to go with Redeye missiles, just PLEASE don't put them behind the headlights like they did in that movie XXX. I mean, after you fire them, the cops would probably end up pulling you over for driving with missing lights. Hmm...then again I could just get me some of that new fangled chameleon paint, you know the stuff...it helps your car blend into its surroundings, then the cops wouldn't be able to see me to begin with! I LIKE where this is going!

i have seen this done in an MR2, in like a sport compact car mag, search in google for night vision mr2 and it should come up, i'll try to find it and i'll post a link

No, I haven't figured it out yet...but I'm still working on it. My problem is that since I'm a convertible, when I do get the imaging system, I won't be able to mount the camara on my ceiling. If I put it on the dash (Which would be WAY easier) I run the risk of picking up a lot of thermal 'noise' reflecting from the hood. Not sure how accurate that is. 4G63 engines put out enough heat to warm small countries.... And don't even THINK about mounting it in the center behind the emblem like Cadaliac did. No room what-so-ever. Ideas?
