DONT half ass your paint job. if your gonna pay someone to do that u might as well buy spraypaint and do it yourself. Preparation is one of the most important parts of painting a car!!!!!!!!!!!

f@#$ YES IT IS NECESSARY :notgood:
don't do it :notgood:

better yet i will let my 10 year old sister do it for free but she will not tape anything off its not NECESSARY

Always sand it before you put primer on it. If you just add primer to the paint itself it will probably not last longer than 2 years. It will begin to peel little by little. I am sanding my car myself so I can make sure I get every spot. Repainting it black...

LOL ROFL point taken point taken!!! i guess i should spend the full $2000 on a good one...i guess if i look around i might be able to find a cheaper one than that. anyone know a good paint shop around nj?

The reason that you do want him to do the prep work is you need a good bonding surface. As an example, if you have a fairly decent paintjob on your car and you just waxed it...theres the car without prep. Now try to sit on the fender without sliding around a little bit...you would be the primer. Bad analogy but its late and you get the idea but... Prepping for paint is always...

By the sounds of it his painting would be low quality, but on the off chance he knows what he's doing and is just being lazy on this one you could always sand it yourself and have him paint it.

Tried that on a car, once. It looked fabulous.

For three days.

Then the lifting started.

Tried spot-repair, and a different color.

It looked fantastic.

For two weeks.

We went down to bare metal.

It looked fabulous.

For fifteen years.
