will a 100w 8ohm sub run off a stock head unit if i just extend the wires and connect one of the back ones to the sub? will either burn out or break?

Do it right or don't do it :) You'll appreciate it more in the long run.

Buy a wire kit. Run the wires, get a cheap amp. Hook it all up right and you'll be happier.

I did that back when i was like 16 or so and didnt know any better and had no cash. Hooked up a 12" sub to my stock head unit by just extending the wire to the sub/box. It sounded like crap and you could barely here anything out of the box...don't bother with it unless you just want to mess around. I don't think my sub was affected much by it but it was a $30 sub and a homemade box. I've learned a lot just from messing around with stuff but you will the pay the price for your lesson.

ya it would work it wouldnt be anything great but why dont you get yourself an rca adaptor and you can run a mean system off a stock head unit i did it in my last dsm and my system sounded great you can get one for 5-15 bucks online and then you can hook up your amp with the stock head unit! :thumb:

yea this is pretty much just to 'get used' to working with this kinda stuff so when i save up 2g for a real system i know what im actually looking for....so im gonna need an amp and an rca adaprter or an aftermarket headunit to hook up the sub if i read correctly, will the 12" be enough for the car or should i go with 2 10"s instead, or maybe one 10"? this is all going to be additional to the stock speakers.

i got 2 12"'s in my car and i got my whole set up online for 800$ i got 2 12's a box that had rms wattage of 1200 each (2400) and a 800w amp and a wiring kit rca adapters and hooked all up to my stock head unit and it slammed so hard it cracked my front window down both sides just an example of how sick it is. you dont need 2g just a decent set of 12's that id say push 500 or better watts a piece and a 500w or better amp and youll blow the doors open all for less than even 500$ if you just did your homework :thumb:

i did this once when i was 15. got a Rampage deck from sears for 100 bucks. it was for my first car, a 74 mustangII. i then wanted subs like everyone else. my parents had some old speakerboxes from the 70's with 12" speakers. i gaffled those and build my own box. wired the speakers up and guess what.

it barely did anything.

save yourself the time. go on ebay, grab a decent 8 or 10 for around 50 bucks, then a box from walmart for however much(i think 30 bucks) then some cheapie 200w amp, and a ebay wiring kit for 30. itll make some nice decent low end(not gonna break windows, but will add to the overall music level) and wont kill your wallet.
