okay, this is gonna be a simple question. my ashtray keeps opening. I'll close it, but after about 5-10 mins driving, I will hit a bump or something, and it opens right up. it's been doing this since I got the car and well it's kinda working my nerves. my question is what is holding it closed. I noticed that theres like two holes on each side and I tried to stick a bent paper clip in both holes to try and make it stay but it won't, I just wanna know what was orgnially there so I can just get one someone and keep it closed. I would check another dsm but there really aren't any 2gs around my area. thanks.

Humm, its actually a little spring in there that keeps it closer, or keeps it open when its open.
So, eithger somebody replaced your spring with something, or yours is just worn. If you think it may be the original i would pull it apart and bend the spring into the desired "closed" chape and pop it back on.
Otherwise, you could hunt through your house for similar spring systems to use as a replacement. Old floppy drives i know have similar springs on em for one.

thanks for the reply. I noticed the spring I believe that your talking about on the lid of the ash tray. thats really not that worn at all, or bent. but the reason why it pops open I believe is the part that connects the lid to actual ash tray on the sides of the ash tray I took it out and when I stuck some pins in it it stayed closed but the pins wouldn't stay in and work for me. I'm wondering if theres like a screw or bolt or something that makes it stay.
