Vancouver,
This problem JUST started happening after I got my car back after not driving it for 3 months..

Turn car on.. CD player plays track 1 for 30 seconds, then shuts off automatically.
Turn power to CD player back on.. track 1 plays.. 15 seconds.. shuts off..
Turn power to CD player back on.. track 1 plays.. 2 seconds later shuts off..
Turn power to CD player on again.. track one plays for less than a second..

It gets worse and worse.. Now it just beeps when I press sourec to turn it on, then shuts off a second later. Cant even eject the disk it happens so fast.

I've pulled the Pioneer deck out about half a dozen times looking for a faulty connection or a loose wire.. nothing. Today I checked the ground.. I moved it to a few diff spots, same results. When I wake up for work in the mornig it does the same routine.. roughly 30 secs, then just gets less and less... Is my deck fried or whaat? maybe the thing got some moisture in it.. any suggestions? Its a Pioneer Dolphin Deck..

Have you tryed other cd players? how about your stocker?
That sounds like a cd player problem. Try doing this and lets see what happens.
Do the usual routine and then when it only plays for less than a second, shut the car off, pull the deck, disconnect the red and yellow wires, then put them back together and does it go through the routine again starting at 30 seconds? This would reset the deck and you'd almost 100% sure its the deck. You could also just disconnect the negative off the battery terminal for 10 seconds, would do the same thing, whichever is easiest for you. I had a cd player with almost the same problems, mine was pioneer junk too.

I read the vfaq site but I wanted to double check, which wire is the 12v+ Constant, and which is the 12v ACC on a 1990 1g, Im pretty shure I've got everything hooked up correct but my cd player loses settings every time I turn off the car =/ I cant really figure it out and that aggrivates me because I've been doing systems for years, even co-managed a system & accessory shop =/

Hey thanx for the reply! Well basically this morning I did what you said.. fired it up the car.. I went to turn the deck on but it didnt even beep or turn on LOL.. sooo i pulled it out, disconnected the red and yellow.. disconnected the ground too.. then i put the red and yellow back together, put the ground down.. still no beep or any power at all.. well I think this thing is shot! its kinda old anyways, good excuse for a new one :D heheh

Well what wires do I touch to the battery to see if it is the head unit for sure?

That's how I have it hooked up, must be a falty cd-player then. Thanks for the reply...

my cd player actually keeps going for about 6 seconds till it shuts off...
bad ground? i dunno

Mine does the same thing. Lasts 30 seconds, then 10 seconds, then 1 second.. I have tried everything. Have rewired that thing and pulled it out maybe half dozen times looking for a loose wire or something. Im almost positive my deck is fried..

How do u check to see if the deck is fried? How do u test it from your battery?

Is this the same for a 2G ? (mostly concerned about the Antenna Trigger wire)

If its hooked up right, then your deck is fubared....probably from all that water you talked about in another post.

You also said its beeping? did you look at the beep codes in your users guide for your aftermarket deck?

Hey thanx for the link! No it doesn't do alot of beeping. But you know it beeps once (or should) when I press "source" to turn it on. Also it should (and has before) beep 3 times when I take my key and the deck gets powered off. It doesnt do any of this anymore. Anyways, im gonna take a look at this diagram, and pull out the head unit one last time!! LOL.. if I do get it hooked up (mostly doubting) i will disconnect my antenna wire cuz my antenna doesn't work anyway LOL (a whole new subject.. think its a common thing for my car)..

Well I have tried everything.. Im gonna say the deck is fried.. I rewired the whole thing again the other day.. changed the ground location.. sanded down my ground location to make it like allllll metal.. nothing.. tried both grounds (wiring harness and factory) - nothin' happening.. I give up on this thing! haha.. im gonna go get a new one! Wish me luck :p I hate not having music!
