600 watt pyramid amp
two ten inch clarion subs

the subs hum when the RPMs raise, and the peakers pop when the car shuts off. He has all the amp wires running on the passenger side. Anyone?

simple. its alternator noise. Make sure his power and RCA wires arent running next to each other. if they must cross, do it at 90 degree angles. Check ALL grounds are clean adn secure. get a ground loop isolater to plur into the RCAs off the deck.

Why cant the Power and RCA jacks run next to each other? Just kinda curiouys b/c I'm having same problem and they are definitely next to each other.

well the easy explanation is bceuase the RCAs even if shielded well, get interfernce from the power wires. theyput out a "field" of sorts to the rca cables and makes interferance with the signal the RCAs are sending to the amp

It's always best to run the the rca's on one side of the car, and the power line on the other. And pyramid??? why would you get pyramid? WTF

i was just talking to the kid who ran the wires, he said he ran the power down the drivers side, and the rca wires down the passanger side. I honestly dont know, the kid who bought all the stuff didnt really get it from a reliable source, and wasnt really informed before hand on what kind of equipment(name brand) he was getting. I personally think he should have just took it to best buy or circuit city and just got all alpine, or somthing decent. Is pyramid really crappy?

thanks for all the help guys

I run all my rcas right atop my power wire and no problems... and always have for the last 10 years with nary a problem except needing to upgrade the chassis to batery ground on one car.

but then I have a decent head, rcas, and amp and good grounds.

Look either the rca's are crapola, or the wiring is crummy, or the amp is a POS.

pick one or all 3 and replace it... till you find the problem.

The hum is from a cheap amp. I also used to jumble all of my wires together and got the infamous buzz with the idle, I bought the noise killer doohickey from wallyworld. Then I became friends with a bunch of installers, who set me upon the right course. I have never had a problem since running the wires seperately even the remote wire carries feed back so bunch that up with the power wire.... oh and I stepped up to brand name amps ie. RF, infinity, alpine etc.

YOu don't have to do that if you have a decent install and good equipment and rca's.

In plain speech: All electrical flow creates magnetic fields around the conductor... if another conductor is in the field, a charge can be induced upon it. both power wire and remote turn on leads AND Rca's carry current thru them, they all radiate, but Rca's are shielded to prevent external magnetic fields from inducing a current on the actual signal wires... instead the outer shield goes to ground dissipating the charge... IF your equipment is well grounded at a single ground point... IE don't mount amps to chassis metal, always insulate the shell and use an excellent ground point. Same for the radio and you can even run it to the same ground if you want to...

MOSt installers can run them together and be fine, sometimes they don't isolate the amp and wind up with noise b/c it is seatback mounted or something like that... in those cases running them separately may help, but avoiding ground loops in the first place is still the best...

For instance in my car... all my power (4ga.) rca's (3 sets) AND 4 sets of speaker wires (components and door subs) and remote wire are all together on the passenger side... and i have no noise and am not even using a twisted pair Rca, just plain old autozone/walmart/anywhere Tsunamis... pinching the Rcas will cause issues so don't pinch them between panels installing them. and dont reuse them unless you are VERY careful getting them out.

I'm betting in your case the amp is mounted to metal, and being a "not as well built" amp it cant't handle the ground differential and or the rcas are crummy.

have you tried unmounting it and holding it in your hand? IS your chassis to battery ground in good shape? have you tried a new set of quality (not $$$$) Rca's?

Pyramid is crap, plain and simple. Their amps suck and they're subs/speakers are absolute garbage. I mean come on, when you can buy three 12 inch pyramid subs and a pyramid amp to power them for under 100 bucks, what do you expect LOL. We bought a few pyramid subs and hooked them up to my old Zapco AG1000, it was fun watching them die.
