Ebay for fenders and bumper. Good idea?

Hi,

I crashed my Eclipse GS 96 last week and the front bumper plus the fenders and driver's headlight need to be changed. I was browsing on eBay and got pretty good prices but I want to ask whether someone has bought fenders and bumper from there, do they fit well, how is the quality?

For the bumper I settled on http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=7964731907&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

For the fenders: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=7965318350&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

I want to go stock, nothing fancy. My car is black anyway so I could use it primed black until I get some money for a paint job.

Do you think it is good to buy these or I should go somewhere else? I do not have much money to spend on them but I could spend around $50 more on the prices as they currently are.

Could anyone recommend me something or tell me what they experience is with these parts from eBay?

Thank you,

Svetlin

I've heard most people that ebay body parts complain. They say the fitment is off, or the parts are warped or bent in some way. Check the seller's feedback and double check to make sure the parts are the ones for your car.

i've got things (aftermarket "OEM style") off of ebay in the past. honestly, most of it is crap ("OEM style" doesn't mean it has to fit even remotely well, even with their BS certifications) and they screw you on shipping. if you can find a guy who's parting out a car that's the way to go, especially if you are looking for stock headlights. you might consider doing a front end swap anyway. it's a pain to do (8-10 hours to do it right), but the 97 front end looks hot, and you can get some different lights for it for way cheaper than 1 stock will run you new.

Hi,

I do not have a problem for the headlights, I already have two options to buy these but not many people are parting out fenders and bumpers and that's why I went to eBay but I guess I wait and check the classifieds on this site. Do you know any other place where people post classifieds for parting out Eclipses?

Thanks,

Svetlin

I just got a fender from those same people. It doesn't fit too bad except it is a little close to the door

I feel for you man. I earlier today ran smack dab into a phone poll doing about 5MPH, blinded by the sun and a non-stop talking girlfriend. It put a golf-ball size dent and a 1 inch round hole in my bumper where some bolt was sticking out of the poll. Ive got a nice gap between the bumper and my hood. Im looking at the possibility of kitting it now since I can get a whole kit for around 400-500. Good luck, ill be using ebay also.

Yeah, accidents happen, mine was at about 20mph and I saw the red light but too late and the breaks could not hold the car back, good I turned the wheels so it hit the other one almost on the side so only the fender and the bumper are damaged but for some reason there is a leak of transmission fluid so I guess I will have to check that one as well (my hood is not popping up because of the fender damage :(((). I was about to go eBay but many people say the parts are bad fit, I am searching for part-out cars for that reason. Does anyone know whether stock fenders and bumper are manufactured by different materials than these eBay stuff, I heard they are done in metal while the eBay replacements are weak CF? Would it matter if the car does not hit anything anymore (I pray for that LOL)

Dootwah527: Does the fender cause any problems while opening the door or it just looks too close to it?

Don't forget your local JUNKYARD... remember there are a ton of n/t out there getting smashed up... but their body parts are the same...

Best bet call around for a 1g or 2g eclipse talon tc aor any others similatr year. then go check on it.

Hi,

I have heard about the JunkYard places all around this forum, actually this is the first place everyone recommends but I do not know where I could find any place like that. I live in Whittier, CA and haven't seen anything like that here. Does anyone from Southern California, specifically eastern Los Angeles Area - Santa Fe Springs, Norwalk, Anaheim, La Habra etc. knows any junkyards around or is there a site that lists them? So many people recommend them yet no one says where these places are?

Thank you for the help,

Svetlin

dsms don't jsut go to some special muitsu graveyard (though there is one)

generally they just end up in a pile at what ever local yard is willing to pay more for it...

check the yeller pages for autosalvage, particulary any that say import. Then pick up the phone and start calling em until you find what you want OR you have called every yard and not found anything that will work...

Thanks guys, I didn't know that junkyards could be found under SalvageAuto. I checked the yellow pages and found a dozen of those in my area. I will start calling them this week to find my parts, hopefully they will be as cheap as eBay.

Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Svetlin
