I've got a 94 talon tsi, plan on changing its appearance.... (you can check it out here http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/687180) I found a blue i fell in love with called... Oriental Blue, i actually think i saw it on "Pimp My Ride" . I'm only wanting 3 colors, blue silver and black on my car. Plan on putting an agressor/dragon z/whatever kit on it (hate on me for that later) and know how i should handle the painting of that and the car. I also plan on chopping my roof and turning it into a targa top (and i know i need a roll cage for that, too) Here's where my questions flow.. do i cut roof first? then paint? That's making the most sense to me, but i'm also wondering if i'm just going to have to get a new roof, since i have a sunroof on mine. Also Thinking about painting the engine bay silver.... along with door jambs and such any thoughts? And by thoughts, trust me I've heard "leave the body how it is and don't rice it out.". I think if your car can back it up.. have all the rice you want! One more thing... the talon roof is black... should i leave it black? or paint it to match the rest of the car?

A nice deep silver with a black top would look best IMO.. I don't think a car would look good with a three-tone paintjob. Also I'd think it'd be much easier for you to leave the car primered/stripped paint before you do any cutting. If you're going to do that much work on the car, I say you should look into shaving some things on it too, like the handles and antenna, etc. I won't get started on the body kit because they're just not my cup of tea, but it's your car. Keep in mind that "backing up the rice" will take much more than 222.9hp ;)

You're first problem with all this is you were even watching Pimp My Ride
Kidding. Seriously, I am a huge fan of blue first gens, and my favorite is white though, especially with the black top. Get a fresh white paint job, debadge, cf hood, black rims with polished lip. At least that is my plan, and my personal favorite for 1gs.

Deffinitly agree with iowaboostin in that you don't want to paint it first and then cut b/c you want to get all body work done before paint. as for the sun roof , its possible to just get rid of it and still keep the original roof i believe b/c you're just going to cut that section out anyways, and if your not going to you can always just fill it with sheet metal. don't quote me on that though, i may be wrong and would deffinitly get a second opinion. i also agree that a 3 tone paint job would be hard to pull off. i would deffinitly NOT paint the door jams a different color b/c it would look like you didn't take the time to paint them at all and that was the color before you're paint job, atleast that's what i would think. a black engine bay, or the same color as body i would say in that aspect. also i would shave antenna body molding, vents, door handles, make it a nice clean ride. dragon z wouldn't be my first pick for a body kit, but that's all in the eye of the beholder. good luck, and keep us informed.

hey man...its your car, do what you want with it. now...how good are you with body work and metal fab? its not as easy as cutting out a section of roof. you need to create a jamb from the cut sections. there are a bunch of ways to do that, but the only way to do a clean factory-looking job would be to weld up and fab metal. Mig at the very least. use 20 even 22...anything thicker is definately overkill. i fab'd a custom metal jamb for a porsche race car i built. 20 was plenty.

also..you do know you have to reinforce the rest of the car, right? at the very least you HAVE to run a cage that will connect the front half to the rear half of the car. a basic 4 point welded in will work, but you HAVE to weld in diagonals from the main hoop to the mid-floor section of the car. then another to connect that to the front section of the car. i'm talking ALL the way to the front a-pilar. otherwise, consider welding and shaving the doors completely. if you just cut the roof out, im guessing 8 months tops...the doors wouldnt open/close right...basically the car will start to sag from the center.

oh yeah, without a doubt, do the body work first. then paint. if your goal is to remove the sunroof...you can fab sheet metal over the opening, or weld in a roof pirated from an old junk car. as for the silver bay and jambs...thats prefference...just dont ask me what i think! :thumb:

good luck!

I was messing with some photoshop and decided against the silver jambs and such. Definitely goin with blue. Yeah, I'm well aware more than 222 hp is needed. (Around here though you wouldn't know it!) I really don't want tooooo much. Just enough. I wanna break the 350 mark. But if i do that, then I'll wanna push 400... then 450... then 500... etc... I do like the shaved handles and such things, definitely want it smooth (I can't belive someone else likes the dragonz, most everyone hates them, they're reason "it doesnt have a big enough opening for the fmic". I still dig it. The white one sounds nice... i'm not a big white fan, but white talons do look nice!
Oh, and when going with the cage, i was looking at 8pt, there's a guy who completely chopped his 1g iconvertible and he wasing me the best way to go is the 8.
Also one other thing I've wondered if anybody looked into, replacing talon tails with skyline tails? or is that a lil too biran spilner for ya? LOL
