Car Paint Evaporating Away!!! Of course its not evaporating, but it sure is disappearing in areas. 2003 Silver GTS w/27,000 miles. Has anyone else had trouble with the paint oxidizing away on there car? Mine has lost its paint front and rear of the sunroof on the driver side in football sized patches. The hood looks like it is about to go from the halfway point back to the windshield. Other locations on the car look rough. I wash and wax it about every 3 months with varied hose offs in-between. The dealer has no problem repainting the affected body panels and even set up an appointment for next week.

I am wondering if Silver paint just has problems or have other colors had oxidizing issues??? Has anyone had experience with the dealer repainting their car and did they do the whole car or just paint affected panels? Did you have to push the issue to get the whole car repainted? How did it look afterwards? Did anyone have issues with trim pieces going back together correctly and still looking as though it was factory OEM? Many thanks for reading and any response!!! :dsm:

There is no such thing as a 2003 gst.

No, But i've seen the pain oxidize like that on some 1st gens. Take it to the dealer maybe you can get a free paint job?

Maybe he meant 2003 GTS. But if you take your car through an automated car wash, that will most likely be the problem. They take your paint off each time you go through one.

when i was going to buy my car the wing had that same sort of effect and it is a black car. i complained and they painted it for me.

i guess its just shitty mitsu paint, or maybe there's gnomes in your neighborhood that are scratching off thin layers of paint and snorting it. watch outside tonight.

My '97 Cayenne Red GS-T has severe oxidation around the sunroof and on the hood, I'm not worried about it though because it's an older car.

The dealership that I bought the car at had no problem repainting my car. The factory rep had seen other silver Eclipses with the same problem. The dealer shop painted it a bit darker silver then the OEM which I really like. The best part of the re-paint is that they put a superb clear-coat on which I haven't waxed yet as it shines like wet paint. So far Mitsubishi has taken care of any warranty problem with no qualms. :dsm: :thumb:
