can you damage the rear glass with subs?

now im not sure if this is totally stupid. i have a really wussy amp and one 10" mtx firing right at the rear window, and it vibrates and w/e pretty good. i was wondering if the system was really strong could it break the window or cause it to come loose or anything like that? anyone have any problems? and how big of an amp load (in amps) can my amplifier be without replacing the alt?

With your setup, I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it. The sub has to be pushing allot of air to crack it.

you can break the window with your sub if you throw it right through that sucka! But like xpr said, with your setup you've got nothing to worry about. Yes it can happen but that's in extreme cases with super hard hitting subs.

i have 2 12" kicker solo-baric L7's and i am pushing 1,470 watts rms out of a kicker kx1200.1 amp with the subs next to and facing the glass. sometimes i can get the rear window to look like it warps (maybe its just the sound pressure?) but i you wouldnt need to worry about blowing yours out and my alternator seems to still work fine but i do have a optima battery and it seems that my car is always on the battery charger.

yea you have nuthing to worry about i run two 12's in'a bandpass on 800w mono 2ohm , its pretty hard to stand bein inside the car but it dosnt realy harm enything except for the bolts in my bumper cover wich got rattled out. my friends rear window however did crack but he was runnin spl comp shit, 1/0g wire 2500w amp and 4 rockford 15's in sumhow he never thot aobut it.

is 8awg ok for an amplifier fused at 60amps? ive read 8awg can push 100amps@12volts. so 60amps@14v should be fine, right? (i wanna get a new amp, current is fused at 30amps)

my old 10's in a band pass used to fire straight into the window and it loosened the seal a little at the bottom. you could never get soap out of there when rinsing the car off. not huge, but it did do a little bit. i wouldn't worry about shattering it or anything though.

im adding a 15" power hx2 in the summer and am just curious on how are cars work with subs?, what generally vibrates and which way is the best to face it, basically is it a good system car?

Hatchbacks work great with subwoofers. Point that sucker right into the back and it will pound. Pretty much everything on these cars rattles. Dynamat will help a lot with the rattling, but any loose panels or hardware will rattle when it hits.

well first off if u ever go to replace the rears.... dont just snap off the connectors for the panels and let them fall in.... even the 6x9s rattle those :thumbdown also anything under the carpeted panel that is loose.

and y do a lot of "800watt" 60amp fused amps say they require 4gauge? LOL hmm im downgrading from a 1000mind blowing watts to 460rms.

This is kinda off topic but a kid where i live blew the glass out of the hatch on his trans am three times.
But he had lots of money in to the system.
He was allways driving around with the hatch on the car a different color than the car because he would just buy a whole hatch from the junk yard instead of swapping the glass

nah man thats the topic, LOL. yea i heard of people with a case of empty beer bottles and a bunch broke. and i was wondering because i have a weak amp and it shakes the window and the rear wiper a lot. i didnt wanna get something better and worry about wrecking something.

Not to jack the thread or anything but how do those Solo Baric L7's hit anyway? I was just wondering because thats what I was thinking about getting one of these days except I was thinking of 1 15 instead of 2 12's.

the l7s are comparable to the rockford power hx2's, same power rating. 1000wrms 2000wpeak, the power hx2 is underratted tho.

I use to run 6-10" JL Audio W3 and 2 Alpine 1500 amps, and never had any back glass problems. Hearing problems, yes. But, glass problems, no. Oh, and 153 decibels on the dash.

140's wont break the glass on the hatch. my old set up hit 145.8 db on the dash and the rear hatch moved some with the subs facing right at the glass.
old set up 2 alpine type r 12's in a custom box with a phoenix gold 600.2 titanium
new set up 2 jl w6v2d4's in a custom box but can't decide on my amp(s) yet. hoping for over 150db on the new setup.
