hey- I just got a blue neon underbody kit and one of those snazzy alarms with the lcd pagers off of ebay, and wanted to know how you hook the neons up to the aux output? i need a relay, but i dont know really anything else about it. i would not mind only being able to turn it on with the remote either and using the included switch to make sure it cant turn on.

what kind of signal output do i need, constant, correct? if its not constant then what kindda crazy crap do i need to rig up? and could somebody explain what pulse, latched, and the other kinds are? do i just need a relay then and i heard of different kinds of relays like stpt or something. ummm is this what i do:? fused(10amp) 12v+ to relay and ground the relay and alarm aux to relay and 12v out to neons and ground the neons? which terminals? anyone else do this?

if nobody knows i guess ill have somebody sign me up for the12volt.com. y cant u use hotmail for anything?

thank you all, and what other fun things can be done with relays?

does your aux output give you options to do diffrent things? or does it just give out a negative pulse? like on my alarm it can be set where if i push it it supply's a negative constant until i push it again. if you want PM me and i will give you my username and password and you can post what you need

i would recomend suscribing to 12volt.com it will ansewer all of your questions and more. Get a registered e-mail from your ISP or school or work. :)

if your alarm has a latching output for an auxiliary channel instead of a pulsed output, all you need is a relay. you'll probably have to configure it to latched in programming mode because usually by default they are set to pulsed.

if it does not support being able to change it to being a latched output, go to www.the12volt.com and look under their relay wiring guides. if i remember, it takes 5 relays to switch it from being a pulsed to a latching output, but it can be done. you will also need a couple diodes.

after you get it wired, trigger the auxiliary channel and they will remain on until you trigger it again to turn it off.

also DEI makes a latching relay, i forget the part number at the moment. but it would be cheaper, and not all that difficult to just make it yourself if you can read a diagram ;)

yep, i downloaded the manual and it has latched. neons will be here tomarrow and alarm on wens. my other question is can i use that aux output w/e i want?, alarm on/off car running/off? or will i have to have another switch? if i have to power inputs going to the neons do i need diodes on them? thanks

yes you can use it anytime and you will need diodes if you have a 12 volt source other then the relay to power the neons.

well i got it hooked up. with the simple remote it cant turn them on with the system armed but with lcd pager it can. pretty cool being able to just turn them on from inside the house just to see it glow :thumb:
