Cov,
Has anyone thought of any kind of methods for preventing rock chips and bugs from messing up your front bumper on the way to a car show? I hate to spend at least 5 hours washing and waxing my car for me to waste it all by a crap load of bugs that want to be shown off as well. I can't afford to have my car towed over to the show. I had heard that there is some kind of protectant used by hardcore showers, anyone think seran wrap would work very good? Lemme know some info.

Thanks

Buy a car bra to cover up your front end on the way to the show and remove it when you get there.

The clear cover and bra sounds like a good idea...but i have a body kit. Thats why i asked about the method the hardcore show guys/girls were doing. My friends said it was a blue film and they would pull up at NOPI and just pull it right off, but they didn't know what it was called

Well if it is just for when you are heading to the show then dont worry about how it looks as long as it protects then you will be fine. As for your buddies idea why not just cover your fornt end with sirran(sp) wrap or something similar?

Just cover it with soft cloth. Something that won't scratch the paint.

3M or someone makes a blue tape. I think you can find clear tapes. I noticed a lot of blue front ends on cars on the NOPI tour. You peel the tape off at the show, then retape to drive home. Going like an hour isn't gonna matter IMO. I drove to NOPI. Just repaint the front when it gets bad. I just don't know about being seen out with blue tape on my car. Whatever works best tho...

exactly wahat i was thinking. Also, the same stuff they use on lapping cars to prevent chips, dirt, etc. I'm sure you've seen the blue taped headlights/bumpers on lapping cars. Same idea. Pz

Wouldn't 3M tape leave a residue behind on the paint?

I think they use wide bodyshop tape/painter's tape. It's used to tape off for 2-tones, etc. It comes off clean. If you are weary, keep a towel and a can of oops handy. It'll take any residue, tar, bugs, etc. right off.

big soft peice of stretchy cloth with elastic around the edges. wrap it over your front while you drive there. the elastic will hold in place. you may even wish to do a couple straps that will go under your hood or into the fenderwells to keep it better in place.

seen it done on 2Gs before. homemade bra pretty much that is SUPER simple to take off cuz it's just elastic. doesn't look too pretty while on, but that's not the point. the point is that the car is clean when it gets to it's destination

Well i just tried seran wrap and it didn't stick...so now i have nothing

Even if it did stick, I dont think it would be sufficient protection from rock chips......
I drive 4 hrs. to Chicago to ever HIN show and I have not yet had a problem with the trips. My entire car stays pretty clean. I wax the hell out it the night beofre though. Thats what works best for me.

If anyone knows where to get that "blue tape", post it here!!!

how about blue tape + saran wrap... i was always wondering the same thing, since you can't drive more than 2 miles around here without either 1. construction 2. giant potholes 3. chips from rocks thrown up by trucks. bugs are a problem too.
