Ok my fuel pump is driving me crazy. So, in an effort to tone it down me and my friends are going to dynomat under the rear seats in hopes of keeping the sound down. If this doesnt work i'm going to dynomat the fuel pump itself!!! ok... maybe not that. I will let you know if it works when we finish.

remove your pump and put one of those thick foam sleeves around the pump, it will help alot. also an aftermarket exhaust helps.

I like that sound..... Do you have an external tank pump though. I've heard those and they sound like a friggen hoover in your backseat. My intank 255 is awesome.

I can barely hear my 190...only at an Idle if I turn down the radio and really listen for it.

Well I am not sure if it is in tank or out because it was installed prior to me owning the car. I am actually putting my new exhuast in this weekend so if that helps that would be awesome. I will try to do the rewire soon as i get my AFPR (backordered). I can't hear the pump at all in first. Second gear I can hardly hear it but 3rd it gets loud, 4th is even louder, and 5th is just crazy.

Dynamat! I got the cheap shit from jc whitney but I did my whole car with it just for fun...... also because I had to take my whole interior out to weld a new roof on. I have a 255 and I can't hear it over my 3" exhaust anyway.

Yup. It used to piss me off when I had stock exhaust. Then I ran w/ just a downpipe for a few months, now I have 3" turboback, and you cant hear the whine Especially in the drop top.

I agree with this.. ^^^^^^ Your car wil begin to make alot of different and louder sounds when you start to mod it. It's a part of the game, and it should be worth the performance. If you want a quiet car, leave it stock. If you want performance, you'll have to get used to the sounds. I like the sound and performance of my 255 intank also.

Somedays or sometimes in the morning i can barely hear it, usually when it gets really hot outside the pump whines extremly loud ad it does change loudness according to the amount of power being sent to it, when i put my blinker on i could hear it whine along with the blinker, louder, lower, louder, lower...

My daily driver, a 93 Ford Explorer XLT sounds like a greyhound bus on the highway and thats stock so don't feel too bad !

i like the whine. lets me know its working. if i dont hear a whine ill know somethings up. this goes for miscellaneous belts throughout the engine bay.

Have you done a re-wire on the pump with a larger gauge?

Take some X-Treme Dynomat and cover the door with it.... it is awesome.... seemed to quiet down mine a bit.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I'm wondering if you did the rewire and if it helped the situation. I have the same condition. Mine is fine at first, but after 30 minutes of driving it is ridiculously loud. I almost don't want to use the blinkers it's so annoying. I put a couple pieces of carpet pad under the rear seat and that didn't help one bit.

Where does one get one of these thick foam sleeves that can hold up to gasoline?

I have a full 3" exhaust, but with a cat and a magnaflow muffler, fortunately or unfortunately, it's not very loud.

At first I used to notice my 190 all the time, especially at a stop with my turn signal on; then it would get all funky. Now I don't even notice the sound. Either it got quieter or I got used to it. I haven't done the rewire yet. Possibly doing that next week.

I was hesitant of buying the walbro becauseof all the stories i heard,but i said F*&k it,I need to try to kill fuel cut somehow so i got one.Now mine is a 190.It has the sleeve around the pump and rewire and it's quiet.I can't even hear it unless I'm really listening for it with the radio off at idle.just my .02

mine is re-wired, and i have a loud a$$ exhuast, and i still hear it, and i can hear it outside of the car. when ever i have passengers in my car they always ask what that annoying whine is and i tell them that its my fuel pump and they are instantly impressed

If your pump is changing sound when you run electronics, I'm willing to bet you didn't do the rewire. Deffinatly rewire it with the bigger gauge wire, it will take care of that.

i notice that on a long trip or long periods of driving it gets alot louder. i havnt noticed it changign with my turn signal though, but ill pay attention on my drive home from work today.

guys, your pump is going to get louder the emptier the tank is... the gas will muffle the sound a little... so check how much gas you got.

And like 99GSTRacer said... you can't mod your car and complain about it getting louder...

I agree with that when you're talking about something like a 3" exhaust as it is inherently loud. But a high flow fuel pump does not HAVE to be loud. There are high flow alternatives, albeit for more money, that are just as quiet as stock. I'm starting to wish I'd spent the extra cash on a quieter pump.
