all i have to say is have fun with the back window.... im pretty good friends with one of the most experianced tinters in missouri... he uses solar guard and has 15 years of experience. i can give you a number if you dont believe me.

he says an eclipse back window is one of the hardest windows to tint..... he uses 3 pieces of tint and lines them up with the defrost but he says 1 piece is a major pain. i would pay the money to have a professional do it with warrenty.

just my .02c

its not worth it because precut does not mean heat shrunk as well. A lot windows ( like our back window ) require heat shrinking as well as cutting the piece out.

I did my own fronts and quarters, that was really easy with a credit card and lots of shampoo and warm water. The back window is impossible if you dont habve experience, so mine is still not tinted because ziebart wants 85 to tint the hatch. Anyone know of a tinit shop in illinois? Goodluck if you try your own, the fitment was really good.

$85 seems DARN good to tint that back window. remember, you get what you pay for, don't just look for the cheapest shop, they usually do the cheapest work.

as for the pre-cut tint, i did my friends 1G with that stuff a few weeks back, fitment was excellent. normally i use LLumar here at work (been tinting a few years now) and i seem to like it. only used that pre-cut that one time, and had good luck with it.

the 2G rear windows are a PITA. I've done them in 1 piece before and turned out good, however it's better (& quicker) to do it in 2 pieces, then i have no problems with them

like i said though, i think $85 is CHEAP for that back window. i'd get AT LEAST $115-125 for it, depending on the customer

hmm. this heat shrinking scares me because i dont want a line around my windows showing it was a DIY

the other thing im worried about and have no clue.

What about the defroster lines? do those affect the tint? or do you just push the tint as much as you can onto them.

you will NEED to heat shrink the back window, no way around it. (unless you do about 20 pieces with splices every 4 inches)

as for the defroster lines, just work right over them

take it to a pro if you have any concerns, cleaning the tint off the back window (w/ defroster lines) becuase you screwed up is a job in itself!

our back windows aren't all that hard. try tinting a beetle, a 4 door saturn (the older type) or an older prelude (like 89ish). a 1 piece back window is the only way TO do it, and with a heat gun isn't that hard. the hardest part of tinting is cleaning the S@#% out of the window, or you will get bubbles/pinhole sized flaws. cleaning isn't that hard either, just takes time.
and yes, Llumar is very good tint. it carries a lifetime warranty, but must be installed by a professional. solargard makes some decent tint. i wouldn't recommend sunguard though, down here in florida it will fade quickly. in florida it is best to go with a metallized film. dyed films will turn purple in about a year or so down here. whoever tinted my talon used solarguard and it is purple. i've just been too busy to strip it off and retint it with some llumar :(

Yes, the early 90's 4door saturns are tough, thankfully i've only had to do 1 of those so far, and only 1 beetle back window, but a couple side windows on the beetle, which aren't the easiest either (as far as side windows go)

the 2G's aren't bad, unless your new to tinting. then i'd consider it a tough one. like i mentioned, i've done them in 1 piece a few times, but i'm pretty good at 2-piecing as well... so if for some reason the tint didn't shrink right the first time, i usually utilize what i can and do 2 pieces.

either way, i still reccommend a pro to do your back window if your new to tinting.

wow i guess this wouldnt be a good time to mention i got my tints for free :p

My dad has a warehouse and his next door neihboors are a tint shop, they do good work...i had my windows tinted by them for free cuz my dad always helps them out w/ random shit,...my friend w/ his wrx got all 4 and the front bar tined tor $85 cuz he knows me

I tinted both of my eclipses, a 1g and a 2g and I did both rear windows with one peice. It will definatly have to be shrunk though. Oh did I mention that I have been tinting windows for 11 years.

The Eclipse rear glass is a very challenging glass to tint.

With that being said, The pre-cut kit that you are looking at is actually not bad. I have used one on a Stratus and on a Ford F350 and they fit perfectly. Im not too sure that I would use it on an Eclipse though, due to the hard curves in the rear. I think that you have too much of a chance of over- shrinking the tint and it will leave a gap.

Oh and I have tinted Bugs and Saturns and I find the Eclipse more of a challenge to do in 1 piece, but I guess this is different for each person. Hope this helps.
