I've got two new 04s8l7's in my car (eclipse convertible, so size was an issue) with dual 4-ohm voice coils wired in series to a fosgate 300s bridged amp (300x1 @ 4-Ohms). First question: This setup should produce a 4-ohm load, right? Second question: If the speakers are rated at 450 watts RMS, does this mean that I need an amplifier that can handle 450 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms(such as the 501s) or one that can handle 900 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms(say the 801s)? Third question: Since I'm running 300x1 @ 4-ohms, will my subs be okay for a while, or will they be woefully underpowered to the point of causing damage from distortion? I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks guys.

under powering a speaker wont damage it, it just wont sound right, especially a big sub, you might not get much out of em, the amp however is gonna be sweating bullets.

Yeah, the possibl ohm loads are either 1, 4, or 16.
If you wire the coils on each sub in paralell, then wire the subs together paralell.. you will have a 1 ohm final load.
If you wire the coils on each sub in paralell, then wire the subs together in series, you will have 4 ohms.
If you wire the coils on each sub in series, then wire the subs together in series, you will see 16 ohms.
Your amp will power them both OK for now, just don't turn it up much.
You are going to need an amp that will do about 800 watts at 1 ohm. There are plenty of class D amps out there that can support that. One off of the top of my head is the jbl bp600.1.
