Hey Everyone,

Stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Do the Laser mesh wheels come off any differently than Eclipse wheels. I ask because I went to take the wheels off my Laser today... I got all 5 lugs off on both front wheels, but neither would budge. I assumed they might be rusted on, so I proceeded to kick the crap out of the wheels from the back with no luck.

I then discovered what appeared to be a lug centered where the axel nut usually is under the small Laser center cap. The difference is that this nut also appears to hold the wheel on and really doesn't look like an axel nut at all. I couldn't get the nut off because I did not have a socket deep enough.

So does anyone know if this nut actually holds the wheel on as well. I know it's not like this on my Eclipse, but I thought it may be different with the Laser.

Also, what is the proper way to remove the small center cap on the Laser mesh wheels? Should I simply pry at it with a small flat head screwdriver?

THe big 32mm nut in the middle IS the axle nut, your wheels are rusted on, kick harder, or try some PB blaster.

That's the thing... this nut looks nothing like the 32mm axel nut on my Eclipse. In fact, it looks much like a lug nut as well.

Have you personally ever taken off a stock mesh Laser wheel?

Thanks for the response and any other help.

LOL hmmm, push it? nah, too much work ;) seriously though, its rusted on, kick harder

Well, I hope to look at it again on Saturday. The reason I find it very hard to believe it is rusted on that bad is that the previous owner had one of the wheels off only about 3 months ago. The car has been garaged ever since then.

I think that damn nut does hold it on. I guess I'll find out soon enough. Anyone with a Laser please respond.

I have no idea what this hidden nut would be. Never heard of such a thing but I gurantee that if you remove all 5 lugs and kick the living crap out of the wheel it will come off the hub. Like somebody mentioned use PB Blaster, that is some good stuff.

take a big long pice of wood or steel and whack the back of the wheel a few times, it'll pop right off. When a car sits, it rusts more, like brakes for example.

I had this same problem with my laser mesh wheels, lots of kicking, and a little cussing will help. Good luck dood

It doesn't. That part of a Laser is the same as any other similar-generation DSM.

i had a similar problem with my wheels on a 90 laser, the front were a lot harder to take off then the rear. with the lugs off spray some KROIL in there. this stuff works like a dream it may be hard to come by but its great! i also used a sledge to whack it from the back side, be careful not to dent/damage/crack the rim though.

so I proceeded to kick the crap out of the wheels

put the lug nuts back on but dont tighten them and drive the car back and forth a few feet and they should break loose

^^^thats the ticket^^^^
put lugs on loosely, put car on ground, roll back and forth a few feet in nuetral(doesn't have to be running you girlieman :p ). It works exactly 23.4 times better then kicking or hammering.
