who here has removed their 3rd brake light on their 2g? lookin for some pics. was thinkin about doin it, might look a little bit cleaner. i kinda think its big bulky and ugly. but lemme know im up for all opinions. peace.:thumb:

take it off, you dont need it. when i got my turbo wing on my car they said i needed a 3rd break light so i started looking at them. they look to big and bulky like you said. no 3rd break light for me.

You know it's illegal to not have a 3rd brake light, right? Just one more reason for the po-po to pull your over and harass you. Plus, if you get rear-ended by some idiot, they cops can say YOU were at fault b/c your car did not have the proper brake setup. Seen it happen before.

hey i was wonderin if any one has removed there 3rd break light? and can tell me how because mine keeps burnin out and its is loose so when i go over bumps it hits the glass noobie here

wait which brake light the one on the spoiler? or the middle one??
i believe the one on the spoiler has visible screws so u can remove it but im not positive....
if it's the middle light then u have to lift up the spare tire compartment and pull the trim off(middle trim in the trunk where the latch to open it is) and u need a 10mm deep socket....just unscrew and pop it off

yes i am talkin about the one that goes aginst the glass and i do hav the 10th anniversary editon. so tighten the screws and add some silicon sealer but what about the light? it keeps burnin out i dont kno if its a short in the wiring or what please help

today i decied to take a look under the trim on the hatch to see wut was under there and i found the bolts to take it off so i took it off and i bent it a lil bit and then put it back on put the screws back in tightly so that stops the noise from it now wut about the bulb is it a short in the wiring or is it because its a cheap bulb give me some ideas on wut it is

Yeah, I tried bending it so it'll press against the glass when it's bolted back up, but it loosened up in a few months again. I think your bulb blowing is because the vibration of the assembly hitting the glass is damaging the bulb filament, although my bulb has never blown yet.

Mine rattled and I couldn't get the ground wire to stay attached to the light bulb, so I pulled mine out and left it. Then I realized that one of the mounting bolts from the light helps hold the interior plastic piece of the hatch in, so I stuck a sheet metal screw in it. Not show quality perfect but good enough and who's going to see it, anyway? :thumb:

ok well I'll get a new bulb tomorrow and see if it will burn out. Should i maybe try a more wattaged bulb jus askin cuz i dont kno LOL

hmmmm now this is very weird. i just got a new bulb on saterday and now today sunday i looked to see if it was still workin and when i looked im like wtf! its burnt out and theres all this white crap on the glass of the bulb and theres also a crack. how can u explain this?

Whats goin on... well.. I had the same dang gone problem... And I had the light replaced at inspection... then a week later, it blew out... I took it to my performance shop of choice.. and they put in a eurolite bulb... still hasn't gone out and its well past a year. I think the wattage of the bulb WAS higher... Happened in one of my turn signal lights too, and they put in a eurolite bulb in there and I haven't had any problems.

Since i bought the car(about a month ago) the rear brake light in the hatch likes to rattle. I was wondering if this was a common problem with DSM's or if its just my car. I am gonna pop the clips off tomorrow, but i was wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem. OR if anyone knows how to fix it.

Thanks
John :dsm:
