Okay, I'm installing a new radio today, because the stock radio's tape player doesn't work. To know what each wire went to (the wiring diagram was worthless) I took off the back of the stock radio and read the connector information off the PCB. I ran into one wire on the back that is labeled as "ANT". I assume this is an antenna connector, but my car has a non-powered antenna, so what's the point of this connector? And should I connect it to my radio's power antenna wire?

Also one quick other question. The stock radio illuminates when the lights are turned on, and there's two illumination wires (+ and -). Should I splice these two wires together for continuity or are they okay to be left alone?

Thanks for your help! I've got the radio already working but trying to make sure everything is fine before I install it completely.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the ANT wire is NOT the antenna input cable. That's a seperate wire.

just leave the ant wire off or connect it, it makes no novermind.
connect the ill + to the headunits ill or dimm wire so it will auto dim.
don't connect the negative to the positive... thats a short!

If you connect your ant wire it runs to the back of your car to were the power antenna would be. Doing this alliviates the need to run a remote turn on wire for your amp (should you choose to run one in the future). You just have to splice it back at the antenna when the time comes but it wont short out in the meantime.

Before I put the radio in, I made sure all my lights worked (especially the taillights, since the illumination wires are hooked up to the taillight relay.) They all worked without doing anything to the Ill wires.

Yeah, Realhp, I noticed on the wire (all wires were labeled) it said something about also being an amplifier connector on it. But I don't plan on putting an amp in anyway, because I can't stand a lot of bass.

But I got the radio in, and my install looks pretty good in my opinion. I had to cut the stock trim piece to fit the radio and some spacer that I found in my car when I bought it.

the ill + is for your head unit to dim when you turn on the lights.

doesn't really have anything to do with the other lights/ exterior interior
