hey i've been wondering. Is there a way to make a heated shifter/wheel? I've figured out a way to make a heated wheel, but not a shift and i need help with this idea, or shoot me down whichever... i know it beeing summer now but i'd prefer to get this done before next winter if possible because my Shifter was HELLLLA cold and the wheel wasn't tooo bad but still.
Keep in mind i want STOCK looking, no aftermarket Ricer shit, alreast none what's visable : P i'm not willing to budge on this, I like the look of my 'Stock' car, but what u can't see that's another story all together. That being said, here's my Ideas
The Wheel: (i've got a solid idea of what to do and what i want, but of course if u can think of anything better, by all means, post that shit)
i've searched and i've found a silicone coted heating element that i can get lines of and whatever length i want. So i could cut the leather that's Sewen onto the wheel and wrap that around the wheel and run the wires the same path that the air bag wires are run.
Basic and easy there, but i don't know of anyone who sews back on leather on a wheel, it's unheard of? so any ideas on this?
and of course i know the warning should it get to hot, ez it comes with a temp controller, or if it caught fire,
that'd suck ass. Of course i'd do my research on the type of stuff i get and make sure it's qual stuff that should last awhile... but reguardless setting those aside i want to know who could sew NEW leather back on the wheel because of course it'd have to be a little bigger and is this a feasable idea?
Shifter:
I've only guessed at what i could do but i can't come up with anything solid. I debaited throwing a heating element up in the middle of it(drilling the middle out ever so slightly) and making the metal part of the shifter(not the knob) slightly powered???..... fuk if i know.... so it gives the Heating element power when it's screwed on there, so u can take it off with ease and not worry about wires attached to the knob...
that's idea 1
idea 2:
grounding the shift(metal part, though i'm sure it's grounded but just to make sure) and drilling a small hole, in the center of it, big enough for whatever guage wire i need to run through it and stuffing an element up in the knob(drilled out slightly) . The wire would connect to the element(dur) and the metal shifter would be the ground.... riiiiiiiiiiiight
Idea 3:(I like where this idea is going but it's based on geting someone to Sew Leather back on.)
Ok they make that Silicone coaded heating element (google search it to see what i mean) And it's flexable, and i can get it in squares and circles, and in lengths like what i wanted for the wheel. ANyways and i could prolly get them to make what i'd want, one that has a small square in the middle(a little smaller than the top of the shifter) and 4 identical squares attached to the center one, to all 4 sides of the center one, so being 5 squares, and this all being 1 Whole Piece (can't do ASCII here so here's my crapy Text Image,
)
00IIIIII00 Look at the wierd drawing the I's make IGNORE the 0's (It wont let me put multiple spaces in here so it'll have to make due)
IIIIIIIIIIIIII know this is nothing near perfect
00IIIIII00 But i hope you get the idea
Basicaly a square but with no corners. I'd like to cut the Leather off the Knob and wrap this around the Knob and run the wires down the middle of the knob and Drill a hole in the middle of the Shifter so i can run them unseen...
Ok i'm outa ideas
The best shifter one i have is the last one, i think. Let me know what you think and if these are even possible.
and on all the mods like this you put in circuits that will only alow these power when switched on and when the car is on, that's ez to do.
if i do this i'm so installing heated seats, but that's easy to do as well, but anyways.
Those are my best ideas and i can't find anyone who resews leather, for the kind of application i need.
