Where in the firewall did everyone pass their power cable through to their amp? I'm about to install an amp and subs I got and was wondering if i'm going to have to drill a new hole or not. thanks for any info.

i didn't have to drill a hole, but my power cable wasn't that big of a guage... i just went through an existing hole in the firewall... right behind the driver side... here is a pic... let me know if you need any more pics, or have any other questions...

ok, it looks like that is right next to the master cylinder... but i have something bolted to the firewall right there and have no clue what the hell it is. i tried looking on vfaq but found nothing. there is another fluid reservoir about 7 inches to the right of the brake fluid. connected to that, directly behind it looks like another container bolted to the firewall. BTW, i'm using 4 gauge cable.

I have a 4gauge power wire, vacumm line, and connect to my profec b all running on the left side, right under the battery on the firewall. If you look in the passenger side up under the dash, youll see a bundle of wires and a wire grommet, just poke through the top of it and run your power wire through there. Good luck.

i just saw that spot but was having a bi*** of a time getting a cable through that spot. I guess i'll give it a shot tomorrow when there is actual day light. Did you actually cut a hole or just make a slit above the bundle of wires. If anyone else has any ideas i'm still open to suggestions. thanks

if you want to drill a hole, about 3 inches left of where your shifter cables go through the firewall is good. Then just just install a gromet.

As for power wire, you can always run in underneath the car, coming up through the driver or passenger gromet - even up through the back (like by the fuel pump)..

I drilled a hole in the grommet itself for the wires. It opens it up the the whole but isnt as big as the drill bit you used. so make sure you dont go too big so its a nice tight fit. What I would to is drill the hole, push a coat hanger from the inside out to the engine bay, tap the two together good so they can slide or separate then pull it through to the inside. That method seems to work best for me. I would recomment going under the car personally. Any more question feel free to ask.

Just unbolt the battery tray, and move it out of the way, then you will have no problem passing the cable where the firewall plug/grommet is that is under neath it.

4ga is very easy to pass thru to the rear if you run it along the washer tubing channel.

It is the best and cleanest install you can make.

Don't run power wires outside the body, and don't run them all the way accross the engine compartment, just remove the tray if you are having a hard time, then pass a coat hanger or a wire puller thru the grommet, and pull the 4ga right up.
It only takes 5 minutes extra to do the job right. Take the 5 minutes.

^^
Best method to do it.
I did it this way and since it's right beside your battery already you don't have to worry about running it everywhere in the world. It's BATTERY to power source.

Im sorry but i have looked for 2 hours now and theres no gromet around battery tray please post a pic thanks!

If you take out the battery and the tray, there will be a harness that goes through the firewall underneath it. It's kinda hard to see from the engine bay, so go into the passenger footwell and pull up the carpet form the firewall a little. You should see a big group of wires passing through the firewall. What i did was take a stanley razor knife and cut an 'X' in the rubber gromet. I then taped my power wire to a really long screw driver, and forced it through the "X" i just cut. Grab a flashlight and look down into the engine bay where the battery tray was. You should see the screw driver sticking out. If you can get your hand down in there grab the wire, undo the tape, and pull the wire up. Replace the tray and battery, and hook it up.

I no longer have a 1g i sold it for a 2g  Im trying to hook up an amp wire through drivers side..side of the battery thanks

then you must have an NT.
battery is front drivers side on those

rear passenger side on the turbos

sorry but the best way is to run the power wire over to the same grommet we use... or drill your own hole.

UPdate: you can get those ultra mini fuses upto 150 200 amp (the bolt in type that used to be for motorcycles) whole assembly of weathertight fuseholder and connectors is less than the length of my thumb and about the same width... save a huge amount of space.

oh and by the way the grommet refered to ealier inthis post next to the master cylinder?

thats for the clutch master. So don't try that unless you are NT and AT... if you are then that is the best way in.
