Ice racing call out

Hey this is for any of you that have ever thought about getting out there and racing. I encourage you to come out and give it a try. Yesterday was my first event and it was a blast!! For the most part its just show and go. I raced the rubber to ice class (no studs) on all season tires. Most everyone else had dedicated winter tire and were getting better traction however i still finished 2nd place over all in the AWD class with 2 first place finishes. Great times! Races were 8 laps on an oval track. Each heat was about 6 1//2 minutes long. We ended up doing a final race i believe it was 20 laps (i didn't count) combined with the other classes. No contact rule is applied but i did trade paint with a guy in a rx7. Next races are on the 7th. hope to see more people out there. Lots of seat time so come on out bring the kids and family. My son was my co-driver!! Over all great day!

Yeah that would be one heck of a journey. Non the less get out there and get involved locally. The amount of fun you will have out there beats racing on the streets any day. I was on the fence about getting out there but now regret not pursuing it before. Awesome times with some great people!! Next race will be on the 7th and the will be at night, should be interesting! Just need to pick up some better tires before then. I ve got some crappy phone footage but was waiting for some other guys that were there to post video of the race if they do ill put up a link to it.

All events will be held on Big Lake, South Shore. It runs thru Mar. 10. There is a post up on AKMS with dates and so on.

hey this ice racing thing interests me can you give me some more info on when and where it will be held. im assuming the circle track on big lake but is there a cost to enter and how many people were there. is it only 2 people at a time. i wanna hit the next one for sure.

I keep meaning come check it out also, looks interesting and I see theres races this weekend. Plus now that its warmed up might not be too bad out there.

Its deffinetly worth checking out. If you have a helmet bring it along Im more that willing ot offer ride alongs and so are some of the other guys.

I came out to watch today and rode along for the last race. Its alot of fun. I picked up alot of tips from my ride along. Smokem was killing it out there. I really wish I still had my DSM. I miss AWD!!!

Depending on the weather I'll be at the next event racing. Especially since they announced that it will be a road course instead of circle track.

I finally got a chance to check out the Ice Racing yesterday it was to cool I first showed up to watch with the wife in the Equinox then came back to watch the end of the event in my Eclipse planning on watching the next event on FEB 18 it would be nice to see more DSM's out there just watching or competeing imo but I plan on watching from my DSM.

Glade you were able to make it out. Sorry i didnt have time between the heats to come meet you. I looked for you after the races but you were gone. If you have a dot approved helmet bring it and come do some ride alongs with me. Usually my sons with me but he was sick that weekend. This weekend is going to be awesome. They have the BigLake Ice Festival going on the 17-19 with the start of the Iron Dog on Sunday, should be a whole lot of spectators and events happening. Freestyle snowmachine demonstrations, heli ride, sled rides, iron pup sled races. Heres a link.
