Yep looks like my timing belt went out in my talon 3 days after getting it :(. Not 100% sure about it though. Just guessing by me looking at it. I am going to have a mechanic look at her here soon to double check.

Is there anybody in the Soldotna/Kenai area that would know that would be willing to take a look at her for me and let me know for sure? Would save me ALOT of money LOL.

If so please call me at 907-631-8222 or reply to this thread. I can pay you if you need money.

Thanks:cry:

What makes you think it went out.. Do you have your top cover on? If not then is it visibly missing or torn up? And if it is gone when did it go was it while rolling down the road or while idling? Thats a good way to start without tearing the car down. If it dies while driving and you didn't catch it like instantly then your at least going to have the head rebuilt. If it went while idling then you can probably get away with just CAREFULLY retiming the motor. More info is needed to really tell you what rout to go.

alrite here is what happened.

I was driving down the highway going about 55 or 60 mph and all of a sudden it sounded like something shot out from underneath the car. I threw her into neutral and pulled into a local parking lot.
While there I took off the cover and the timing belt was not torn apart but it has some tears in it and a steady line it it up top. I am thinking the guy before me had the wrong screws in there and maybe one was to long. I had my friend look at it yesterday. He is a mechanics son and he noticed that a pulley is out also. Looks like it broke into a couple pieces. :(
I am hoping its fixable though. We will see though

Sorry to hear that. Hope not too bad but he's right if it jumped time at that speed, time for head job. Valve replacing not too big a deal but if cracked valve guides then that definetly gets more expensive. My car was a timing belt casulity, why got so cheap. I did the head and timing belt. Then about 200 miles later it spun a rod bearing and locked up solid. Oh the joys of DSM's. :banghead:

MMMhm well id say you have a couple bent valves but if you caught it quickly it shouldn't be to much more then that.. Are the cams still lined up with eachother? If you don't know take and post a pic of the cams from drivers side and we can tell you exactly what to do from there.
Im thinking that it was the pulley that went bad and fell apart causing the belt to lossen up and bind.
I say this because my buddies 3000vr4 did the same exact thing like a few thousand after we changed the belt. I told him to get a pulley and he didn't listen and now the cars been sitting for 15months. Either way man id start tearing it down and i wouldn't take it to a mechanic. If you have will to learn you can do it yourself its really not that hard just time consuming. I promise this will not be the last time something stupid happens with the car and there is no better time to learn the car then now while you have to take her apart.

Dang that sucks. I might have blown the head gasket on my galant. I let it warm up and tested the launch control in my driveway and then notice the temp was 216 degrees (via ecmlink) and my stock coolant gauge is broke (throwing a code for the connector). So I now have white smoke coming from the exhaust. I'll try to do a compression test this weekend. I'm contemplating just selling it for good and putting the money into my mazdaspeed 3.

Well thats not good.. How did the temps jump that high so fast? Do your fans kick on? And if you were just testing it did you launch the car or just test it while reving and sitting still.
If it was just sitting still id have opened the hood to allow the hot air to escape. If you actually launched it as long as the fans are working it shouldn't have over heated.
On Another note my fans were jacked for a couple weeks and were not working at all and my car would only over heat if banging on it alot or lots of stop and go traffic. I just got them working again like 3 days ago. My car only has the stock temp gauge and it was all the way up to the top of the normal lines almost touching the red.
I was almost home so i just used the heater to stop it from getting hotter and when i got home i pulled two house fans out layed one on its side to blow on the IC and bottom of the car and one on top with the hood open. Let it cool for about a hour came back out started her up and she was just fine. So i really wanna know what caused the head gaske to pop on yours.

I had the e-brake on and foot on the clutch with my hood open and decided to log my launch control. I was only on wastegate pressure and my boost gauge showed only 5 pounds of boost. Today I figured out what happened, the damn thermostat is stuck shut.

Ouch man that sucks bad.. Well i gotta say i wouldn't sell the car LOL. Id tear her down and put a new gasket on. I don't like seeing people walk away from there dsm haha so seriously just rebuild it. Hell if your getting a mazda3 then looks like youve got yourself a good reason to tear her down and turn it into a track car:hellyeah:

Oh thats not the reason I'm selling my galant. I would love to keep it, but I can't keep dumping all my money into it. I already bought my mazdaspeed 3, had it a month now and have 1300 miles on it. This will be my Daily Driver/Weekend Warrior.

Oh i see. Well why not just keep the galant and turn it into a track only car. Save up and have a year or two project. Weekend warriors are fun but id bet a 8 second galant's funner haha. To each his own but thats what id personally do. How many mods are on the car already?

I would but i'm in a bind. The plan was to have the galant as a track only car. And my speed 3 as my daily driver. I don't drag race though. I auto cross and rally cross. As far as mods it's just an evo 3 16g with all the supporting mods, external wastegate because I was planning to go with a bigger turbo once I cage the galant. And ECMlink. Drag racing wise it could be a low 12's car with cams and a good race tune.

I have a sparco fighter seat for it, but it's not installed. I had a guy interested in buying, but he never called me to come check it out.

So pulled the valve cover off and 6 of the valves are popped off. It is weird though they do not seem to have any damage to them at all no cracks or anything just looks like they are popped off. And the cams are all lined up and doesnt look like there is any damage to them either.

Usually doesn't hurt the cams. Having rockers off though is a sure sign that the valves have hit pistons. Worse case on head is it can sometimes actually break the head, making it worthless. Best case is just bent valves, then bent valves and broken valve guides next worst. Need get head off to find out exactly what happened. Its not that hard to get off, doesn't take that long. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

any idea on how to do that?

I used the search thing on here to look for a guide or a "how to" thing but I could not find one

Remove fuel rail and injectors. Remove intake and turbo as well as IC piping. Power steering pump. Radiator.Exhaust mani. Pop valve cover and remove timing belt. Then remove head bolts and that pretty much is it. Also all electric plugs and stuff. I never even read a manual or guide when doing mine just attacked it LOL. Some people pull the intake mani too but it doesn't need to be pulled before you remove the head althoguh it will make it lighter. I started on the front of the car and worked my way back and it took like 4 hours but i was a slacker if you cant tell by my screen name;)
