I'm a new guy in anchorage with my first dsm. i bought a 90 gs turbo and it's really clean but it hasn't been driven in over three years. I got it started but it dies when I turn the lights on or use the wipers. If I start it and let it sit it's fine just idling but if you go through a couple gears and let it go back to idle speed it dies again. I realize that it's most likely a dead cell but I was just wondering if there is something common that I'm not aware of. I'm new to turbo cars I've got an el camino with a 377 I built and a 79 firebird with a stroked 400 I'm putting together but I've never been brave enough to tackle a turbo car. Any help would be appreciated.

Alternator isnt charging correctly and of corse change thr battery if its been sitting for a while. After driving and it dies isnt really a common problem, that could be because the charging system. So check them out

^^^^ +1. I'd take the alternator off and take it to shuck's and they can tell you for free if the alternator is bad. Or you can just start the car and while the car is running take the negative or positive terminal off (cant remember which one) and see if it dies. If it does, its your alternator not charging the battery. also, if you have a multimeter put it on the pos. and neg. terminal while the car is running and it should read 14.

I'll pull out my multimeter when I get home tonight. I just picked it up last night so today is really my first go at it. Where can i get a decent rebuild kit for that motor, what do you guys recommend?

Really couldn't tell u man. U would have to ask some of the more experience guys on here. U plan on doin the rebuild yourself?

Yeah I'll probably tear it apart this weekend. I can build the motor but I'm probably going to need a lot of help with tuning. Anyone wants to help shoot me a pm.

I would help u if i new what i was doin! LOL. I'll come to get my hands dirty and learn myself.

ive always heard on a rebuild(cheap) to use 2g pistons because they are forged and the rest just keep becasue it has been known for these bottom ends to"hold up to 500 hp" im not sure on that. Ive seen them hold 400 hp comfortably but i think 500 is pushing it. for bearings, i heard acl race bearings were good, and for headstuds definitly get arp headstuds! everything else is gaskets and rings, i got a dealership head gasket for mine. I wouldnt go cheap on that. and belts you can read up on. its opinoins from there

eDeclpse92 funny you are from belleville I'm from st louis. I miss home. Anyway I put a new battery in it and a can of seafoam and it's running like it just came off the showroom floor. I really like the car it's small and fun. All it needs is a little more power...

What kind of gains am I looking at with a mbc, 550cc injectors, 255 LPH fp, bov, and intake? Is it worth it without exhaust? I need a decent tune as well can you only use dsmlink on one ecu or multiple and does anyone up here have one?

Don't forget an AFPR. What type of BOV, honestly you won't need it, unless you want the sound. The 1g bov's hold up pretty good. If you go the DSMlink route you gotta have an eprom ecu. Im pretty sure dsmlink doesnt lock to 1 ecu, i think you can use it on multiple ecu's, dont quote me tho. I'd say get an AFC, and wideband, you'll feel a nice difference, im gonna assume your still on the 14b, and an exhaust would help.

Ok.. I'm drawing a huge blank.. AFPR? I would assume it's related to A/F but I'm lost as to what mod that would be. How much boost can the 14b and stock bov handle? I heard the 1g stuff is pretty stout but I don't know specifics. I want to keep the bov a recirc and I really want to keep the stock exhaust, at least from the muffler back. I like to keep appearances very low key so I'm gonna keep it quiet as long as I can. And last I really want to do a set of cams because I feel like unless I replace the cam I don't have a real car, old habits I guess.

Ok once again excuse my ignorance but what is this EPROM ecu? From reading other posts it's a stock ecu but some cars have it and some don't.. What did it come on and how hard is it to get one around here?

EPROMS came in random DSM's, its all the matter of looking at your ecu, I know the 2g 95's had em, and all 91-92 GVR4's had em...you can expect to pay like $200 for one. Also to utilize dsmlink you need to have the eprom socketed and chipped, if you buy your dsmlink directly from ECMlink its included in the price you just gotta send them your ecu...and i think now they are able to socket and chip non eproms or is that another company
