I'm sure if that you can find a other descriptions of it useing search; but I'll get you mine here. When you are boosting (say 5psi), and you completely let off the throttle, you should hear your bov (even if it's routed back to the intake) release. If you don't here it release, but instead here a chug-chug (like a train sound), then that's compressor surge. It usually happens at lower psi's (2-10), when the bov sometimes doesn't pull up to release the pressure.
