sorry my spacebar wasn't working...
is it safe to go ahead and use a t3/t4 garret on a 1st gen:confused:

YOU can only run about 7psi on that motor so as long as you have the fuel to handle the boost it should not mater what turbo you use. Only boost 7psi anything more and BOOM there gose your motor. My friend also has a 92 and were are going to turbo his car using parts off a GST.

I don't know how similar the 95> engines are but my 96' 420a handles 10psi on a t3/t04e quite nicely. I have gone to 11psi on a few occasions and it has handled the power. If your engine has a lot of miles I would say 7-8psi would be a safe setting.

I have one of the larger trims of the t3/t4 turbocharger. If you have a smaller trimmed turbo then what I've stated above is even more agreeable to your motor. Of course, this all depend on the differences between our year's engines. Hope any of this helps. Good luck t3/t4'n!

for us 420A's on the one side you should only run 7 psi max without fuel mods and 10-11 with fuel mods, nothing higher usually.

but, with the 1g it is hard to say because the 4g63 is pretty strong and should be able to handle a bit more than the 420A.

this all depends on what size t3/t4 you're using. remember that a different turbos at the same pressure will move different volumes of air. so while 7 psi on the 14b might be safe, if this is a big turbo you might only be able to run 4-5 before you start flowing too much air and running lean, then detonating, and then needing a rebuild.

well the t3/t4 came out of an 86 grand national.....so 7-8psi should be ok?

What's this 7psi bullshit????

I run 10psi(with spikes to 11 in 4th and 5th) on a ported 14B all day long on my NT pistons, have been for about 5000 miles now. I check the plugs and compression regularly just to see how it's doing. My plugs look great and my compression has not dropped a BIT since going turbo.

7psi? HAH. I laugh at your 7psi. The NT 4g63 is stronger than most think.

supergoat, while your car has shown the ability to handle 10psi for the last month or so those who have come before you have shown less agreeable results. the main reason everyone jumps on the 7psi bandwagon is because a hardlined 1g wastegate actuator (outlet nipple to wastegate actuator) is set to around 7-8 psi. it was an easy and free mbc that limited the boost to a reasonably safe level.
