ok before i turbo my 1.8 im gonna rebuild it. I've only found one rebuild kit and that was on mach v. is there anywhere else that has them cheaper? I would like to save as much cash as possible.

To be quite honest, that is a good rebuild kit, but at the same time, if you go turbocharged your going to want to go a different route. See, you are going to want internal work done, and make sure that internals can hold up to the stress of turbocharging. I would look into some pistons, possibly JE/or Ross. JE, if you send them the piston, they will measure it and they will make you an exact copy. Mine costed 463.27, and took 1 month to get here, but 1 1/2 for everything to happen right. I also purchased rings, which was 72.something, but to make sure that everything was going to hold up to high heat and high chamber preasures. As for rods, I don't really see a need, since I doubt you will ever get the horsepower to break them. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you plan to up the RPM, and if you plan to do that, also buy titanium valve springs to prevent valve float. THe machine work that must be done before though is:

Valve job [ Buy valve stems, and valve guides]
Re-surface of the block and cylinder head for good seal on head gasket.
Honing of the cylinder walls
Line bore accross the connecting rods, and against the journals in the block where the main bearings sit.
Crank turn.
Steam clean on cylinder head and block to make sure all dirt is removed. [if any dirt is found on the bearings or crank, take it off with a sharp knife, or if you can your fingers. I have seen cars spin bearings because just alittle dirt went in.]

That should do it. Don't worry about much of anything else, if you need any rebuild help, just ask me, I am doing it from the ground up :)

yeah...

We are talking about a 1.8liter single overhead cam, 4 cylinder, 8 valve economy engine here. Why are the words turbo and building up even in here???

What is that about. Did I say my car was better? Do you see my trying to take a engine built for great gas mileage and long life, and making it fast? Building up a 1.8 is like building up a civic..especially the earlier ones.

just dont understand why you have to hate on his car when hes trying to work with what he has.. and u are in his league...

I'm actually hating on 1.8...just because he is the most annoying person ever to exist. But really think about it. The engine was designed to get great gas mileage and last a long time. It is not made for speed. If you want speed you bought the wrong car. If you want a grocery-getter, you found yourself a great reliable car.

I wouldn't give a damn really. Cause I hate my car myself. I am not trying to make my car something it shouldn't be. And besides, he doesn't seem to have a problem with it...you are the only person making a big deal about it.

one last thing I wanted to add...that may persuade anyone from building a 1.8.

So I finally am saying, don't rebuild your 1.8. Its not worth it. No don't try to turbo it, don't try to jump JE's in it. Its not worth your time. Seriously.

ummm yeah thanks fast1.8

the rest of you guys are ****ing morons. I asked for help not for you peolpe to tell me its not worth it. Im tired of people ragging on other people who are gonna do something thats different. Did I ask you if Its worth it? No i asked if you could hook me up with a couple places that could save me some cash. Assholes

hey i stuck up for you

hey man. I just dont like being told that my engine isnt worth even thinking about turboing. It is after all, my car

you sound like the fat ass bully that cant make his car fast so has to rag on people below him. get a life asshole, and get a fast car why you're at it.

Couldn't have said it better myself BD.

There's a distinction between giving someone advice on something they are planning on doing and telling them what to do/flaming them for it Pballernh. Everyone starts somewhere but not everyone is working to the same goal. yeah I want my car to be fast but to me, if I run 13's I'll be content just because there is a point where I don't feel it's necessary for me to make my car go any faster. Just cause the 1.8 isn't a 2.0 doesn't mean that it's not worth it or not capable of having good performance.

It was not amde for performance, it was made for economy.

ok, you've made your point, wether or not it is valid is not important.. now shut the hell up about it and leave it alone. it's his car, i assume he worked hard for it and earned it, so he can do what he wants. You have no right to bash it or imply that it is not made for performance. So leave him the hell alone, damn, why do you have to be such an ass about this?

what an idiot. bd1000Eclipse is right. If you have nothing good to say about someones car, just dont talk. I have put a lot of hard work into this car. If I wanted to buy a 2.0t I would have seved and bought one. I don't I like the way that the 1.8 is setup better than the 2.0. It's just my opinion. After reading Kalanis post on turboing it and seeing what he is doin for specs(250whp, 236 lb.ft torque) and still getting good gas mileage I decided to turbo it. Im not gonna change my mind because some asshole is telling me its not worth it. That would be the stupidest thing I could do.
