Quick question, what turbo should i use on my 1.8 to get close to 200 hp? could i do it with the t 28? as soon as i get some cash im going to acquire the necessary parts. my 1.8 is amazing-not really but i'd like to be able to beat all the 2.0 dsms when i get my liscense. any suggestions greatly appreciated

It is up to you really. The best turbo to bring you over 200 HP would probably be either a T3 50-60Trim, or a 16G. Big16G could bring you over 200, possibly over 300. It matters your engine condition, and what is in there. If your running stock internals, bigger the turbo and less boost you run, the better off you'll be. If you run too high of boost on stock internals you will blow your ring landings out. The best way to go is forged internals, then you can run a T3/T4 60 trim and push over 300 HP safely.

ok, sorry for maybe asking the same question but i dont know to much about turbos being aa 1.8dsmer and all, whats the best turbo for around 200hp and little turbo lag, i know that with big 16g, i would almost drown in lag unless........there was something i could do to minimize it

also do you agree with the statement that the 1.8 has more potential than the 2.0.

lastly what is the max. hp you think the 1.8 could handle?

Heh, you are bent in provening me wrong huh?

For the least turbo lag, I'd think you'd want to go with a smaller turbo. I myself, also do not know much about turbos, since I just recently got my turbo dsm and have not had a chance to actualy drive it (typical dsm eh?), but that just makes since to me. You could probably go with a small 16g.

yes, john, i am. except this time it wont be josh tellin us......it'll be a dsm wiseman

no, im not gonna use a mitsu turbo, i think im going with a garrett but which one....

might shoot for the big16g and suffer the turbo lag consequences, i know i can somewhat prevent it during shifting by using the 1g bov

2.0 Turbo has more potential then the 1.8. Look at the differences, bore, more ve, larger runners. The 1.8 has its advantages having smaller runners and a lower geared transmission for faster low end. Also there is a weight difference. Don't though think that your going to produce power like a 2.0, it isn't going to happen. Being 1.8L turbo is fustrating, but has results that give any 1.8L owner a wet dream.

And for turbo advice, this is from my personal opinion. Use the 1.8 for low end, make it a low end monster, not high end. Take the compression, raise it up with Forged pistons, find a good head gasket to contain the preasure, and make that engine roar in low end. Don't get a puney turbocharger, but get a medium one. T3 is good, same with a 16G

another thing to consider is the driveability of any clutch capable of holding serious power on a 1.8.

i currently am spinning my 279lb/ft capable 5 puck and am hoping that a 323 lb/ft act will solve the problem since its the only option other than their 414 lb/ft 6 puck.

Mavisky, ACT makes a clutch for us, one that is as strong as the 2600 ACT. But there is one that is lighter, that is only 190lbs, or 1900. It would be the perfect clutch for a 1.8 Turbo. And it only costs 209 for the whole SET!
