Hello, I have been reading through a lot of the postings in this group that looked like they would help me out. I am thinking about getting the star stage 2 turbo to slap it on my new to me 99 GS. (I read through the a lot of “VS” posting on the star and its competitors and would like to avoid that all together)

It is a lot of fun to drive, which is almost the only reason I take a lunch at work. I did also read that the automatic transmission in the 99 should be able to handle the turbo. I should also say that I am planning to get a cam, valves and springs to beef up the block some all at the same time. My question is since the Auto. Transmission can build resistance on the crank while it is in gear and the break is pressed will that create boost from the turbo, and in a sense creating more “off the line” power? Just a curious question. Thanks for your input.

I think i know what your trying to say. If you power brake the car, which is using both the gas and the brake in order to get the rpm's up high enough for a launch, will it place enough of a load of a turbo car to build boost. Well the answer to that question is yes, atleast it does for your setup

I actually have an auto, and for your question no actually. When you power brake w/ it, there's a certain RPM where it begins to creep. You can hold it down up till like the 2000RPM region and then it'll begin to creep. You turbo won't spool that low, especially with a Star kit. So no, I believe you won't be able to get boost while power braking. The T3/T4 turbo is a lot bigger than the S16g like in Hahn, so it does take more rpm to begin to spool, but it is a monster turbo. If you have an automatic, if you are stuck on getting a Star kit, you need to get the E-trim w/ ball bearing, it'll spool at like 2700rpm (hahn's turbo spools at about 2500). But, the Star's turbo is a good turbo and is better than Hahn's if you're looking for dragging and high HP's. :thumb:

Just get a high stall torque converter to build up the boost while power braking. That way your car wont start to creep around 2000 rpm.Get a 3000-3500 stall converter.
