So my girlfriend wants to buy me something for our anniversary. We set a $300 limit. I'm working on getting my car turboed but I dont know what direction I should go first. I can have her get me one new part or used parts from craigslist list. Ive seen tons of FMIC's for $60-$100, some turbos with no shaft play for $200. I dont know what I should have her get me. Opinions?

Turbo'ing your car cost more than $300...

Plus its a 420a why bother :p... LOL jk

Id get a cool stereo deck or subs...

I know how much turboing my car cost. I'm asking what part I should get with the $300. I have an in dash nav system. I dont want subs. Thats why I posted into the turbo conversion section for the 420a motor. :thumb: I'm turboing my 420a because I have a 420a. I know whats wrong with my car and whats not. Ive had it for 7 years, I trust my car. And I have 2 motors for it already.

Get some injectors and a wideband? Or....lets see. I have an intercooler setup for a 2g. Greddy T-18 or something like that. I have another FMIC but that was for a 1g, idk what the difference is. I also have a 1g BOV.

Megasquirt is a good idea.

You could get an EBay intercooler setup, there are good ones for good prices.

You could also get a Holset turbo, which is what I personally recommend so that you don't waste money on a junk EBay turbo that will blow the seals, or eat itself. There are some brand new, rebuilt holsets going for $349 shipped on EBay right now.

A SFMU will only take you so far with a stock ECU too. I say Squirt it! I'm impartial to turbonetics myself, but hey it's not like you can get a rebuilt one of those for 350 shipped...

There's a used SFMU going for under $300 on 2gnt, right now. They're pretty common to find for about that, used. I would recommend that, or a FMIC setup.
A bigger TB is also a good suggestion. However, I assume your main goals are on getting turbo'd, first. So, I would put your money towards those parts.

if it were my old 2g gs, i would start with getting aftermarket rods and pistons. then things for tuning and monitoring, then fuel, then the turbo and fmic.

+1 to the built bottom end. The worst part of going turbo with a 420a is that, on a basic build, it can't handle what the driver is expecting. Most guys want to turn up the boost right away and our rod bolts can't handle the stress. If you build it now, it can handle whatever you throw at it, aftermarket ECU or not. Money well spent in all aspects.

go get yourself a 12 pack :)
Ha, My dad actually works for Coors so I get free beer.... Anyone want to trade beer for parts?

I am actually building a spare 420a right now. I just dont want to throw it in until next spring. I dont want to waste all that money by screwing something up. I've never had a turboed car before. I figured, I can get all the parts to turbo my motor now, make a learning experience out of it. Then throw the other motor in next spring. Its not a daily driver and I want to be able to tune it myself.

Nice! Then I would honestly look into MS2. You'll be able to learn how to tune your car before you put the motor in that can handle a massive tune. Good luck and make sure you double, triple, and quadruple check all your parts to make sure they are the right ones for your build.

word bro goodluck.. im currently working on my build.. i have everything needed to run 8lbs max stock internals.. just for now.. i will be building it through time.. tight budget.. expensive hobby.. im hoping the best for us :) ALSO.... if anybody knows!!

what are the biggest injectors we can using the stock ECU?!
