bottom end kit or piston rings

should i save my money and build up my bottom end or should i get my new piston rings and then save up for bottom end kit. i can have the kit in like 3 months, but i need new rings cause i am getting massive blow by everynow and then. i still cannot figure out how to to a compression test, even after looking at the VFAQ and the FAQ on 2gnt.com.

Replacing rings won't do much when your pistons are cracked. I imagine that is what is wrong.
