Hey Guys I was hoping to find the pros and cons of running an external vs. internal wastegate. My 20g has an internal and I'm not sure if I want to convert to external or not. I know I could weld the flapper shut, but I'd rather try another route..

Then again, there may not even be a difference. I'm hoping for some input with people on both sides of the fence..

Another thing that ran across my mind...

Look at the second pic to the right...
I'm not sure if that would be a good set-up or not. Just figured I'd post it up anyways...

TIA for the replies. :thumb:

I had internal W/G on my 60-1 and found that above 25psi it would start to open in the upper rpm(6000+) on the dyno the boost would drop from 28 to 26psi. On my old 50trim the internal gate was OK. I think that with 20g and boost not more then 25 psi you will be OK.

if you search in the tech guides, I believe they talk about external gates being able to control exact boost presssure more acurately....it tries to eliminate boost spike more acurately........of course the cons to the external gate are making room to fit on the manifold (espcially if you had a tubular manifold), don't forget re routing the dump tube if you didn't want an open dump.

its also depending on your airflow application from the turbo.

thread jack: anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for the old delta mark 2 wastegate? I'm in the process of checkig summit right now, but I was told they only sell them for the new (newer) evolution external gate. I'll take PM's if you know the answer.

okay back to the thread topic.

If you call Turbonetics, they can give you the phone numbers and locations of authorized dealers that can order the "kit" for you. I'm not even sure if there is a kit to buy, just the diaphragm, valve, and other miscellaneous parts.

But... screw the Deltagate. I had one that I tried to fix in every which way, and it still leaked. I just sprung for a TiAL finally, and now... no more problems.
