i turbo'd at 135,000 and it worked for a week..... ha ha. i was driven' today on I20 and i heard a loud pop. i pulled over and my tb and some of my intake was covered in oil. where did it come from? any ideas? so it's time to call good oll' howell and get a rebuild kit.

i want to do the rebuild myself and had a few questions.
i know i have to buy the howell kit for the block but what do i do to the head??
do i just take it off get it and all the internals cleaned and checked out. then put it back togeeather?

about how much should it cost for me to get the block cleaned bored and crank balanced as well as the head cleaned and rebuildable?

does it still run fine? did you do a compression test? does it still leak oil? there are so many more solutions to this problem then your engine being blown

no it runs real slow and blows smoke. it also throughs a cel and flashes. i will do a compression test tomorrow.
Your CEL flashes?!?!?!?! OMG uhhhhh I'm pretty sure thats not a good thing. If I were you I wouldnt be driving it with a flashing CEL............

What do you mean by blows smoke? My head gasket was bad when I installed my turbo..never even got to drive it. The exhaust smoke was terrible coming out, smelled bad too. Best I can describe it as a big cloud of smoke coming out of the exhaust, is that what you have?

a flashing CEL means an active misfire. before you go order a built engine, check other things like the head gasket... unless you want a built engine?

i do want to build the motor but would like to drive my car aswell. would the headgasket make oil go everywhere? i dont have a constant leak that i can see but i do have oil around my tb.

yes it has a big cloud of smoke and it idles really loud like a lawn mower. how can i tell if my head gasket is blown? and why does oil come out of my breather?

ok i read all that and i still don't understand why the oil comes out of the air breather. this does not happen on all the turbo 420a's so that means there is something wrong. why is there that much pressure in my valve cover and if there is oil in the valve cover that means it is comming through the valves which is not supposed to happen. i switched to 20w 50 is this a problem?

still no one has awnsered how do i know that my headgasket id blown?

if i fix that will it fix the oil comming out of my breather?

i went and pulled the pcv valve out. how will i know if it's bad? if i blow on one end it wont let anything through. if i suck it lets the air go through fine.

well its official you both suck and blow :p sorry thats all i have to add

replaced the pcv valve and it had no effect. going to replace the headgasket this weekend. would a blown headgasket cause air to come out of the breather hose? or does that mean i fried my piston rings or worse?

has this not happened to other people or does no one want to awnser my questions anymore. I will try to ask better questions this time.
here are my symptoms can someone tell me what might be wrong:
i am not blowing smoke but it is ideling very ruff. there is air comming out of my breather tube it is a little smokey. the motor rocks while ideling and smoke comes out of my exhaust too. i replaced my pcv valve and it had no effect. if it's the head gasket i would like to replace it myself. if i can turbo a motor i can replace a head gasket. please let me know what you think about my lil' problem.

holy jeez! WTF

 I think what he's trying to say is...he had the same problem before, and it went away after he changed his valve cover gasket. If I totally misinterpreted that post, then please let me know, and I'll make sure to stay off of here from now on

Looks like you're runnin outta options huh. I would say since you're planning on a rebuild soon or in the future, you're gonna want to go ahead and replace the head gasket. since it's also a possibility that it's causing these problems for you too, you could go ahead and get the purchasing of that outta the way now...mls all the way (if you're gonna do it, then do it right :rocks: ) hopefully that will solve your problems, or possibly something even easier and cheaper will be the culprit

as for the aa joke chris...don't worry, I defintely got it right away :barf:

have you done a compression check?

There's always oil in your valve cover, it lubricates your cam, lifters, etc... when your rings or vavle guides start to go, you can start to build excess crankcase pressure, and this would cause the oil to blow out the breather... also check your water and oil, see if one's in the other and vice versa... that'll tell you if it's a head gasket... the lawn mower noise sounds to me like you have an exhaust leak, but I suppose a blown head gasket could do the same...

you really need to do a compresion test before you start tearing into your motor.

Sorry about that I was typing to fast. I had the same problem oil everywhere a few weeks ago. But I change my Valve Cover Gasket and that fixed the leak. And the lawn mower sound maybe a exhaust leak.
